Chapter 20 - What Harold Gives BackHarold surrendered one final thing.

The mansion’s private family archive.
For decades he had controlled it.
Eleanor’s letters.
Walter’s papers.
Company history.
Harold transferred it to the independent foundation.
“No more private gatekeeping,” he wrote.
Graham read the note.
His father had finally understood that controlling history allowed controlling identity.
The archive revealed ugly things.
Walter’s bloodline letters.
Old governance memos excluding daughters.
Documents showing Eleanor repeatedly challenging them.
The family mythology changed.
Vale history had not been one heroic line of men.
It was arguments.
Compromises.
Women pushing against traditions.
Mistakes.
Corrections.
Graham decided future family materials would include all of it.
Not sanitized.
Micah would grow up knowing legacy was not something he had to worship.
He could improve it.
Renee approved.
“Better inheritance than a mansion.”
Graham smiled.
“Also cheaper to insure.”
That evening Micah drew a family picture.
Renee.
Graham.
Marcus.
Himself.
A dog they did not have.
Graham pointed.
“Who is that?”
“My dog.”
“We do not have a dog.”
“We should.”
Renee laughed.
Harold was not in the picture.

No one asked him to add Harold.
Absence was allowed.
