Chapter 18 - THE VIDEO THAT SAVES ARIELLE AND DESTROYS DORIANThe full gala video became evidence in Arielle’s defamation filing after Cambria continued implying she had been attacked.

Arielle had not wanted lawsuit.
But Cambria’s statement—
I acted out of fear after being physically threatened
—kept accusation alive.
Video showed no threat.
Audio captured Cambria’s whispers too.
Not all clearly.
Enough.
Enhanced legally by forensic audio expert.
Cambria:
“Your husband slept with me.”
Then:
“He’s not yours anymore.”
Arielle:
“You were just a passing thrill.”
Then:
“You may have gotten one night…”
“…but you’ll never have his heart.”
No threats.
No raised voice.
No movement toward Cambria.
Then Cambria glances.
Steps.
Drops.
Screams.
Then Dorian enters.
Slap.
The footage did two things.
It cleared Arielle.
It indicted Dorian morally.
Not criminally necessarily; Arielle did not pursue, but public image brutal.
He watched wife stand innocent.
He watched himself strike without question.
He watched Cambria behind him show tiny smile.
The smile lasted 0.8 seconds.
Enough.
Dorian shut screen.
Then reopened.
Watched again.
Therapist later asked why torture himself.
Dorian answered:
“So I stop editing memory.”
He had remembered chaos.
Now saw sequence.
Arielle’s hands stayed visible.
Cambria’s intention obvious.
His reaction immediate.
No ambiguity.
He wrote apology.
Ten pages.
Did not send.
Good.
Then rewrote one page.
Still did not send.
Finally asked Arielle’s attorney whether she wanted statement for case.
Arielle agreed only factual.
Dorian provided sworn declaration:
He did not witness Arielle touch Cambria.
He arrived after fall.
He struck Arielle based solely on assumptions.
He later viewed footage confirming Cambria fell without contact.
He had previously had affair with Cambria.
This created bias and conflict he failed to recognize.
That last sentence mattered.
Dorian publicly admitted his own betrayal contributed to believing Cambria.
No minimizing.
Arielle read declaration.
Her attorney asked:
“Do you want him added to suit for anything?”
Arielle shook head.
“No.”
“You’re sure?”
“Yes.”
“He has apologized and accepted facts.”
“I’m handling marriage separately.”
Again.
Systems.
No using legal case for emotional revenge.
Cambria’s lawyers sought settlement.
Retraction.
Damages.
Confidentiality.
Arielle insisted one condition:
Public correction.
Not apology wording.
Fact.
Arielle Westbrook did not push or physically touch Cambria Sloane before the fall.
Cambria resisted for weeks.
Then agreed.
Statement released.
Arielle’s name cleared.
Society shifted.
People who whispered apologies approached.
“I always knew.”
Arielle hated that phrase.
“No, you didn’t.”
Some admitted.
Some disappeared.
She learned which friendships survived uncertainty.
Celeste attempted public defense of Arielle.
Arielle stopped her.
“Do not fix my reputation now after helping Cambria access me.”
Celeste looked ashamed.
Good.
Then Dorian asked one meeting.
Arielle allowed ten minutes.
He stood across same ballroom? No, perhaps living room. Better private garden at Asterleigh? She had avoided estate. They meet neutral.
Dorian said:
“I watched video.”
“I know.”
“I don’t have words.”
“That’s unusual.”
He almost smiled.
Couldn’t.
Then:
“I believed her before I looked at you.”
Arielle’s eyes hardened.
“Yes.”
“I don’t know how to live with that.”
“You learn.”
“How?”
“That is your work.”
He nodded.
Then Arielle said sentence that became center:
“You cheated on me with her.”
“You lied about me to her.”
“You let her define me.”
“And then when she performed the version of me you needed to believe…”
“…you hit me for it.”
Dorian cried.
Arielle remained steady.
She continued:
“The slap lasted one second.”
“The betrayal behind it took months.”
Dorian whispered:
“I’m sorry.”
“I know.”
“Will you ever forgive me?”
Arielle looked away.
“I may.”
Hope flickered.
Then:
“But forgiveness is not same as marriage.”
He closed eyes.
May you like
Understood.
Finally.
