Chapter 18 - DANTE OFFERS HIM EVERYTHINGDante still made the offer.

Not impulsively.
After months.
Eli’s kinship placement was going well.
School improving.
He visited Rosalie every other weekend.
One afternoon Dante asked him into the study.
“No guards?”
“Do you see guards?”
“Probably hidden.”
“Fair.”
Eli sat.
Dante placed three documents down.
“What are these?”
“Options.”
Eli immediately looked suspicious.
“Money?”
“Some.”
“No.”
“You haven’t heard.”
“No.”
Dante smiled.
“Hannah predicted this.”
“What?”
“She said you’d offer.”
Eli looked pleased.
“Smart.”
Dante continued.
“Education trust.”
“No.”
“Medical support.”
“I have insurance.”
“Good.”
“A fund in your mother’s name for rehabilitation scholarships.”
Eli paused.
Dante noticed.
“That’s not for you.”
“I know.”
“It would support low-income families.”
Eli looked at him.
“Why her name?”
“Because she cared about access.”
“How much?”
Dante told him.
Eli’s eyes widened.
“That’s stupid money.”
“Yes.”
“Too much.”
“Probably.”
“What do I get?”
“Nothing personally.”
Eli thought.
“I like that one.”
Dante almost laughed.
“Of course.”
Eli continued.
“My mom didn’t die wanting money.”
“I know.”
“She wanted you to know she told the truth.”
“I do.”
“And people know?”
“Yes.”
“Then do the fund if it helps people.”
Dante nodded.
“No building named after her.”
“Why?”
“She hated fancy buildings.”
“Noted.”
“No giant picture.”
“Fine.”
“Maybe shoes.”
Dante frowned.
“What?”
“Green sneakers logo.”
He smiled.
“That can be arranged.”
The Hannah Mercer Mobility Access Fund launched quietly six months later.
No gala initially.
No press campaign.
Just grants.
Transportation.
Therapy access.
Second-opinion funding.
Dante insisted on independent governance.
Rosalie insisted on patient representatives.
Eli insisted the logo include green shoes.
It did.
Moretti anonymously donated.
Dante discovered anyway.
He said nothing.

Some acts did not need public credit.
That was another thing he learned.
