Chapter 14 - The Café ReopensThree weeks later, the sign came down.

Bellamy Café was removed letter by letter.

People gathered outside to watch. Some came because they were curious. Some came because they had seen the videos. Some came because guilt had finally taught them to show up without a phone in their hand.

A new sign went up in its place.

Mia’s Corner

Mia stood on the sidewalk, staring at it.

“No,” she said immediately.

Adrian, standing beside Caleb, raised an eyebrow. “No?”

“You cannot name a café after me.”

“I already did.”

“You own it?”

“Technically, one of my companies does.”

Mia crossed her arms. “Then name it something normal.”

Caleb coughed into his hand, hiding a smile.

Adrian looked at the sign. “You saved a man outside this door when everyone else watched. Seems like a reasonable name.”

“I was scared.”

“Courage usually includes that part.”

Mia had been offered a choice. Not charity, Adrian insisted. A job. Real pay. Real benefits. Training. A chance to manage the café with an experienced operations team until she was ready to run it herself.

At first, she refused.

Then she thought of every waitress Marcus had underpaid. Every customer he had mocked. Every hungry person he had turned away from the door.

Maybe a café could be different.

Maybe a place that once hid secrets could become a place that protected people.

On reopening day, the first customer was the elderly homeless man Mia had once fed after her shift.

He stood nervously at the entrance.

Mia walked over and opened the door.

“Come in,” she said. “Water is always free here.”

May you like

The man smiled.

And the city began to change in one small corner.
