Chapter 2 - The Man Everyone FearedRavenshore had many rumors, but none traveled faster than rumors about the man with the tattoos.

Some said he controlled the docks.

Some said he had ruined powerful men with one phone call.

Some said his motorcycle club was not a club at all, but a private army.

No one seemed to know his name.

That made people even more afraid.

Inside Bellamy Café, the customers stared at him through the window as if he were a dangerous animal that had fallen too close to the glass.

“Don’t go outside,” a woman warned. “He’s dangerous.”

Mia was already moving.

She grabbed a clean towel, a bottle of water, and pushed through the front door.

“Mia!” Marcus shouted.

She ignored him.

The afternoon heat hit her face. The man lay on his side, breathing hard, one hand pressed against his ribs. There was no visible wound, no dramatic blood, only a terrible weakness in the way he tried and failed to sit up.

“Sir,” Mia said, kneeling beside him. “Can you hear me?”

His eyes opened.

They were gray, sharp, and exhausted.

“Don’t call an ambulance,” he whispered.

Mia frowned. “You need help.”

“Not that kind.”

Behind her, the café door burst open.

Marcus stormed out, his polished shoes clicking against the pavement. He grabbed Mia’s arm hard enough to make her wince.

“Get inside,” he hissed.

“He collapsed.”

“And that is not our problem.”

“He could be dying.”

Marcus leaned closer. “If you help him, don’t bother coming back to work.”

Mia looked from Marcus to the man on the ground.

Her job meant rent. Food. Bills. Survival.

But the man’s fingers were trembling.

Mia pulled her arm free.

“Then I guess I’m off the clock.”

Something flickered in the man’s eyes.

May you like

Not surprise.

Recognition.
