## Chapter 4: The Night Sarah Carter Disappeared

Max had never forgotten that night.

Fifteen years ago...

The Harrison mansion was different.

The lights were brighter.

The voices were louder.

The family was still complete.

Richard Harrison was still at the peak of his empire.

Eleanor was still the elegant woman everyone admired.

Michael was a young man building his first company.

Ryan was only seventeen years old.

Olivia was twenty-three, preparing for her wedding.

And Sarah Carter...

Sarah was still alive.

She was still walking through the halls of the mansion.

Still laughing with Eleanor.

Still bringing coffee to Richard every morning.

Still the woman everyone trusted.

But that night...

Everything changed.

And Max remembered.

---

At 2:04 a.m., the old golden retriever suddenly stood up.

The entire mansion was asleep.

But Max wasn't.

The dog lifted his head.

His ears moved.

A sound.

A familiar sound.

The sound of a door opening.

The same sound he had heard fifteen years ago.

Slowly, Max walked toward the back entrance.

Nobody noticed.

Everyone was too busy arguing downstairs.

But Max knew.

He knew someone was repeating the same mistake.

Someone was returning to the place where the secret began.

---

Meanwhile, in the abandoned Harrison guest house...

The mysterious intruder stood inside the dark room.

The DNA report remained in their hand.

The paper that could destroy the Harrison family.

The person smiled.

"After fifteen years..."

They whispered.

"Everything finally comes back."

Suddenly...

A sound came from behind.

A growl.

The person turned.

Max stood at the entrance.

The old dog stared directly at them.

For a moment...

The intruder froze.

Because Max was not looking at them like a stranger.

He was looking at them like someone he remembered.

"You..."

The person whispered.

"You were here that night."

Max growled.

And the memory returned.

---

Fifteen years earlier.

A younger Max was sleeping near the kitchen.

The mansion was quiet.

Then...

A woman's voice.

"Please, you have to listen to me."

Sarah Carter.

Max immediately recognized her voice.

She sounded afraid.

Very afraid.

Max stood up and walked toward the hallway.

Behind the office door...

Sarah was arguing with someone.

"I know what you did."

The other person answered.

"You have no idea what you're talking about."

Sarah's voice became stronger.

"I saw the transfers."

Silence.

"I know where the money went."

The person lowered their voice.

"You should forget what you saw."

Sarah laughed sadly.

"You think I'm scared?"

A pause.

Then the person said something Max never forgot.

"Everyone has something to lose."

---

Young Max had moved closer.

Through the small opening of the door...

He saw Sarah holding a folder.

And standing in front of her...

Was someone from the Harrison family.

Someone she trusted.

Someone everyone trusted.

But Max could not see the person's face clearly.

The lights flickered.

Thunder exploded outside.

Then...

Sarah screamed.

Not a scream of pain.

A scream of betrayal.

"You?"

The person said nothing.

Sarah stepped backward.

"I never thought it would be you."

Then the door opened.

Max saw the person's shoes.

Expensive black leather.

A small scratch on the left shoe.

And a silver ring on their hand.

Then...

The person left.

Sarah remained inside.

Crying.

---

The next morning...

Sarah was gone.

Everyone believed she had disappeared.

But Max knew.

She didn't leave.

She was taken away.

---

Back in the present...

Max barked.

The intruder stepped backward.

"You remember."

The person looked nervous for the first time.

"You old animal."

Max moved closer.

The intruder reached into their pocket.

But before they could do anything...

The guest house door opened.

Richard Harrison appeared.

Behind him were Michael, Ryan, Olivia, and Emily.

Nobody spoke.

Because they had all heard.

The last sentence.

"You remember."

Richard stared at the person.

"Who are you?"

The intruder turned.

And everyone froze.

---

It was Eleanor.

Eleanor Harrison.

Richard's wife.

The mother of his children.

The woman who had been standing beside them the entire night.

Nobody moved.

Ryan looked shocked.

"Mom?"

Olivia's face went pale.

"Why are you here?"

Eleanor looked around.

Then at the DNA report in her hand.

She sighed.

"I was hoping nobody would find this."

Richard's expression changed.

"You."

His voice was quiet.

But full of pain.

"You were the one in the room with Sarah."

Eleanor closed her eyes.

"I didn't kill her."

Nobody expected those words.

Because nobody had accused her yet.

But she answered as if she already knew.

Michael stepped forward.

"Then why were you hiding everything?"

Eleanor looked at him.

"Because the truth would destroy this family."

Richard laughed bitterly.

"You already destroyed it."

---

The DNA report slipped from Eleanor's hand.

Emily picked it up.

She read the first lines.

Then froze.

"What is this?"

Nobody answered.

Emily looked at Richard.

Then Eleanor.

Then Ryan.

"This is impossible."

Michael grabbed the paper.

His face changed.

Because the report showed something unbelievable.

A DNA match.

Between Sarah Carter...

And Ryan Harrison.

The room went silent.

Ryan stared.

"What?"

Emily looked at him.

"Ryan..."

"No."

Ryan stepped back.

"No, that's impossible."

Richard looked at Eleanor.

His voice trembled.

"Explain."

Eleanor couldn't.

Because the truth she had hidden for fifteen years was finally
exposed.

---

Fifteen years ago...

Before Sarah disappeared...

She discovered more than financial fraud.

She discovered something about Ryan.

Ryan was not Richard Harrison's biological son.

The child Eleanor raised as a Harrison...

Was actually Sarah Carter's son.

---

Everyone looked at Ryan.

His entire identity had collapsed in one moment.

"My whole life..."

Ryan whispered.

"What are you saying?"

Eleanor cried.

"Ryan..."

"Don't."

His voice cracked.

"Don't call me that like everything is normal."

Richard looked devastated.

"Is this true?"

Eleanor couldn't answer.

But her silence was enough.

Ryan turned toward his mother.

"You knew?"

Eleanor cried.

"Yes."

"And Father?"

"No."

Richard closed his eyes.

The pain on his face was impossible to hide.

For fifteen years...

He had raised Ryan.

Loved him.

Protected him.

And now...

He discovered his youngest son was not his by blood.

But then...

Something else happened.

Ryan suddenly laughed.

A broken laugh.

Everyone looked at him.

"You all think this changes everything?"

Nobody understood.

Ryan wiped his eyes.

"You think I'm the secret?"

He looked at Eleanor.

"You are wrong."

The room became silent.

"What does that mean?"

Michael asked.

Ryan looked toward the old folder.

"The DNA test isn't the only thing Sarah left behind."

He pointed at the documents.

"She knew someone would find out."

Ryan's voice became darker.

"She left another message."

Richard frowned.

"Where?"

Ryan looked at Max.

The dog stood beside the door.

Because Max knew.

The old dog walked toward the fireplace.

He sniffed underneath it.

Then scratched.

Everyone stared.

Richard moved the old stone panel.

Behind it...

Was a hidden compartment.

Inside was a small box.

Covered in dust.

Eleanor whispered:

"No..."

Because she recognized it.

That box belonged to Sarah.

---

Inside the box was a letter.

Only one page.

Richard opened it.

The handwriting was Sarah's.

The first sentence immediately destroyed everything they believed.

"If you are reading this, then Eleanor has finally been forced to
reveal the truth."

Everyone looked at Eleanor.

But the next sentence was worse.

"However, the truth about Ryan is not the greatest betrayal inside
the Harrison family."

Richard continued reading.

His hands started shaking.

"The person who stole from the Harrison Foundation was not trying to
get rich."

"They were covering up something much darker."

A final line appeared.

The line that made everyone freeze.

"The person responsible for my disappearance is still living inside
the Harrison mansion."

Nobody spoke.

Because everyone understood.

Sarah had known.

The person who betrayed her...

Was still there.

---

Suddenly...

A phone rang.

Everyone turned.

It was Olivia's phone.

She looked confused.

"I didn't call anyone."

The screen showed an unknown number.

Richard nodded.

"Answer it."

Olivia slowly pressed the button.

A voice came through.

An old voice.

A voice nobody expected.

"Richard..."

Everyone froze.

Because the voice belonged to someone who should have been dead.

"Sarah Carter."

Emily dropped the letter.

Her face turned white.

Her mother was alive.

After fifteen years...

Sarah Carter was calling.

And her first words were:

"Richard Harrison... you have no idea who betrayed you."

A pause.

Then Sarah whispered:

"Because the person who destroyed my life..."

"Is standing beside you right now."
