Chapter 22 - THE ROWE ESTATE SURVIVES WITHOUT HER

Rowe Estate did not fall.

Gloria predicted catastrophe.

It did not come.

The family sold a commercial parcel in Stamford.

Rowe Hospitality refinanced at a higher rate.

Distributions were cut.

One hotel was sold.

Professional management took over decisions Gloria once controlled informally.

Spencer supported the restructuring.

Gloria hated it.

Then learned.

The mansion remained.

Smaller staff.

Less spectacle.

More honest balance sheet.

Avery followed only through information relevant to final financial separation.

She felt relief.

Rebecca noticed.

“You wanted them okay.”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

“Because I don’t need their destruction to prove I was right.”

Rebecca smiled.

“There she is.”

Avery rolled her eyes.

Spencer eventually moved out of the estate.

Not into a luxury penthouse.

A two-bedroom apartment closer to work.

Gloria called it ridiculous.

He said:

“I like paying my own electric bill.”

For the first time in his life, Spencer lived somewhere without Rowe portraits.

It helped.

Avery heard through Brooke.

She smiled.

May you like

Not because she wanted him back.

Because change was easier to believe when nobody was watching.
