Chapter 9 — The Woman Who Owned Everything
Linda had spent twenty-three years trying to forget.
But memories didn't disappear.
They waited.
She remembered the night everything changed.
Emily had been only a few months old.
Linda had discovered millions missing from Morgan Holdings.
At first she suspected accounting errors.
Then she found false companies.
Hidden bank accounts.
Payments made to people who didn't exist.
And finally, one name kept appearing.
Daniel Price.
But Daniel had denied everything.
Linda couldn't prove it.
Then her husband disappeared.
Three days later, he was found dead.
The official report called it an accident.
Linda never believed it.
She had investigated privately.
Every lead ended in silence.
Every witness suddenly changed their story.
So Linda walked away.
She changed her identity.
She raised Emily quietly.
And she waited.
Years passed.
Then Emily applied to Morgan Holdings.
Linda immediately became suspicious.
Why that company?
Why now?
She checked the application.
Someone had accessed Emily's file before the interview.
The person had searched for Linda's private records.
That was when Linda knew.
Someone was looking for her.
And they were using Emily to reach her.
Linda had quietly begun investigating again.
She hired a private investigator.
She monitored company records.
She reopened old financial files.
Then she discovered something terrifying.
The money stolen twenty-three years ago had never disappeared.
It had been moved.
Hidden.
And recently, someone had begun transferring it back.
Linda stared at the bank records.
One account was active.
The account belonged to a man who had supposedly died twenty-three years ago.
Her husband.
Linda's hands trembled.
That was impossible.
Unless the death certificate had been forged.
She called Robert.
"Find him."
Robert was silent.
"Linda..."
"Find my husband."
"We thought he was dead."
"I know."
"Then why are you asking me to find him?"
Linda stared at the old photograph.
"Because someone just moved money from his account."
There was a long silence.
Then Robert said:
"Linda, if he's alive..."
She closed her eyes.
May you like
"I know."
Robert whispered:
