Chapter 21 - THE TRUTH NATHAN DIED PROTECTINGThe investigation revealed scale.

Vincent had used Dominic’s reputation for over fifteen years.

He pressured small business owners.

Manipulated acquisitions.

Paid corrupt intermediaries.

Silenced complaints.

Nathan documented enough to show system.

Samuel Vance discovered pieces.

That likely led to his death too.

Renner confirmed Vincent arranged Samuel’s fatal “robbery” after Samuel threatened tell Dominic.

Dominic received news alone.

For hours no one entered office.

Then Riley did.

Grant tried stop.

Dominic waved.

She sat.

“Samuel too?”

“Yes.”

“I’m sorry.”

Dominic nodded.

“My brother died because I trusted wrong brother.”

Riley frowned.

“Vincent wasn’t your brother.”

“I treated him like one.”

“That’s not same.”

Dominic looked.

She continued:

“You told me not to blame myself for adults who failed.”

“Maybe try your own advice.”

Nathan would have laughed.

Dominic smiled faintly.

“Terrible child.”

“I learned from you.”

Then more truth.

Nathan’s evidence had protected not only Riley.

It exonerated several people falsely accused of theft or fraud after resisting Vincent.

Families received answers.

Businesses recovered claims.

Dominic began selling or restructuring companies tainted by Vincent.

He created independent compliance board and stepped back from several operations.

Not redemption overnight.

But change.

Media asked whether fear empire was collapsing.

Dominic responded through attorney:

“If a business only works because people are afraid to say no, it deserves to collapse.”

Riley read statement.

“Dad?”

“Yes?”

Not dad.

She stopped.

Dominic noticed but did not react.

“Dominic.”

“Yes.”

“Did you write that?”

“Lawyer improved grammar.”

“Figures.”

She had started school again under protected arrangements.

Therapy.

Drawing.

Running, but now for exercise.

The first time she jogged in park with Grant nearby, she stopped halfway and laughed.

“What?”

Grant asked.

“I’m running and nobody’s chasing me.”

Grant smiled.

“That’s generally goal.”

Her scars remained.

Dominic once offered dermatologist.

Riley said maybe someday.

No need erase history to heal.

The old secret number remained saved.

She renamed contact:

D.V. — ANNOYING

Dominic found out.

Offended.

Grant thought hilarious.

But danger not over until trial.

Vincent’s people attempted intimidation through letters.

Riley turned every one over.

Did not read most.

That itself was growth.

Nathan’s war no longer had to live in her head.
