“You worked in a diner last year.”

Guests listened.

I stopped speaking to them.

Identity was not a public debate.

Nathaniel requested a secure room.

Genevieve refused.

“This is my hotel.”

I looked at the gold Bellmont crest beneath her heels.

“No. You manage it temporarily.”

That distinction frightened her more than the word heiress.
