Chapter 18 - WHY BRENNA HATED ADRIANABrenna finally told truth in deposition.

Not legal truth only.
Emotional.
“I hated that she could leave.”
Adriana’s attorney asked clarify.
Brenna did.
“Adriana lived Singapore, London.”
“She sent money.”
“Everyone praised.”
“She didn’t sit with Marianne after surgery.”
“I did.”
“She didn’t deal with Gavin depressed.”
“I did.”
“Then she owned house anyway.”
There it was.
Brenna saw herself as unpaid caretaker while absentee daughter held title.
Some true.
But she omitted choices.
Adriana asked after deposition through lawyers? Later they speak perhaps in mediation.
Brenna said:
“You got credit for being responsible because you wrote checks.”
Adriana replied:
“You got authority because you were physically present.”
“Neither gave right to humiliate Mom.”
Brenna cried.
“I was angry at her because she kept reminding me house wasn’t mine without saying.”
“How?”
“By existing.”
“Her chair.”
“Her photos.”
“Her routines.”
“Every time investor came, she made it obvious this was older woman’s home, not venue.”
Adriana stared.
“You punished her for being evidence.”
Brenna looked down.
“Yes.”
That was one of first full admissions.
No excuses.
She also admitted knowing Adriana likely had not directly signed deed.
“I told myself Gavin had permission.”
“Did you believe?”
“I wanted to.”

That distinction important.
Criminal case eventually resolved with plea to felony? Forgery of public record/uttering maybe Virginia statutes. We should avoid precise charges if uncertain. Say Brenna pleaded guilty to offenses related to fraudulent recording and financial misrepresentation as part of negotiated disposition. Received suspended portion, short jail? User wants consequences. Maybe 8 months local? Let's later.
