Chapter 21 - WESLEY MUST CHOOSEWesley’s choice came during Kline’s settlement negotiation.

Kline’s attorneys offered favorable resolution if Fairmonts agreed to characterize June substitution as requested by family and “outside standard clinic process,” minimizing broader pattern.
Priscilla’s lawyer said:
“It protects June from public details and limits family exposure.”
Nadia said:
“No.”
Priscilla looked.
“Think.”
Wesley was silent.
Old pattern.
Nadia watched.
This was moment.
Priscilla:
“If Wesley supports, we can close.”
Nadia turned:
“Wesley?”
He looked at mother.
Then lawyer.
Then Nadia.
“No.”
Priscilla stiffened.
“Listen.”
“No.”
He continued:
“Mother asked Kline.”
“But Kline had a pattern before and after.”
“We will not let him frame this as one grandmother’s private request.”
“And we will not hide clinic failures.”
Pritchard:
“This could increase press.”
“I don’t care.”
Priscilla:
“You care about June.”
“I care enough not use her privacy as excuse for false statement.”
There.
Choice.
He chose truth over mother’s reputation.
Not wife over mother simplistically.
Truth.
Priscilla stared.
Then slowly nodded.
“Okay.”
No meltdown.
Growth on her side too.
Later Nadia asked:
“Were you scared?”
“Yes.”
“Of what?”
“Mother looking disappointed.”
“At thirty-eight.”
They laughed sadly.
“That’s powerful.”
“Yes.”
He said:
“I chose.”
Nadia:
“You did.”
That night she asked him back into shared bedroom.
Not as reward.
Because trust had shifted enough.
They did not have dramatic sex scene. They slept holding hands.
Adult intimacy can be quiet.
Morning June jumped bed.
“Pancakes!”
Normal.
Wesley burned first batch.
May you like
Nadia laughed.
Family justice sometimes looks like breakfast after hard choice.
