Chapter 24 - WHAT THE INVITATION REALLY BOUGHTAva kept the wedding invitation.

Not framed.

Not displayed.

It lived in a drawer.

Years later Sophie saw it when helping Ava pack apartment before move.

“Is that it?”

Ava looked.

“The famous card.”

Sophie laughed.

“Can I finally see?”

Ava handed it over.

Sophie read front.

Then back.

Handwritten in Claire’s script:

Ava — if you decide to come, you come straight to me. Family access. No questions. C.

Sophie stared.

“That’s all?”

Ava smiled.

“What were you expecting?”

“Some gold seal saying billionaire emergency entrance.”

Ava laughed.

Sophie turned card over again.

“I spent two years imagining this thing had some secret code.”

“It did.”

“What?”

“Friendship.”

Sophie looked at her.

Then nodded.

That was whole point.

The card had not bought respect.

It had exposed who required proof before giving it.

Collins.

Sophie.

Guests online.

Even Ava herself sometimes judged people by first mistakes.

The invitation did not make Ava valuable.
