THE LAST CAR HIS FATHER EVER / Chapter 5 / 18

Chapter 5 - THE MAN BEHIND THE MONEY

Adrian believed his father had always been rich.

He was wrong.

Richard had never told him about the years before Sterling Holdings.

He had never explained the first warehouse.

The failed contracts.

The unpaid loans.

The nights he slept in his office because he couldn't afford a hotel.

Adrian knew the fortune.

He didn't know the sacrifice.

One evening, Adrian entered his father's office looking for a document.

Richard was away at a business dinner.

Adrian opened a drawer.

Inside were old photographs.

He found one of Richard at twenty-eight.

His father looked almost unrecognizable.

Younger.

Thinner.

Standing beside a rusted delivery truck.

Behind the photograph was a handwritten note.

“First shipment. $12,000 borrowed. If this fails, everything is gone.”

Adrian stared at it.

He had never seen this version of his father.

Under the photograph was another document.

The original company agreement.

Richard had built Sterling Holdings from almost nothing.

Adrian continued searching.

He found newspaper clippings.

Bank statements.

Letters.

Then he found something that stopped him.

A photograph of Richard holding Adrian as a baby.

On the back were four words:

“Everything is for him.”

Adrian stared at the sentence.

For the first time, guilt appeared.

But it lasted only seconds.

He closed the drawer.

His phone vibrated.

A message from his car dealership appeared.

“Your custom upgrades have been approved.”

Adrian smiled.

The old photograph disappeared from his mind.

That night, Richard returned home.

He noticed the office door had been left open.

He knew someone had been inside.

The next morning, he asked Adrian.

“Were you in my office?”

Adrian didn't hesitate.

“Yes.”

“Why?”

“I needed a document.”

Richard looked at him.

“Did you find anything interesting?”

Adrian shrugged.

“Just old stuff.”

Richard nodded.

He didn't ask more.

But something had changed.

May you like

Adrian had seen a side of his father that he had never understood.

And Richard had realized that his son was beginning to ask questions.
