Chapter 11 - WHY LILY HAD TO DISAPPEARVivian planned to reach Geneva before the trust received notice of my objection.

Her lawyers would present the forged custody documents on Monday morning.

Once Lily was physically present in Switzerland, Vivian intended to argue that removing her would cause instability.

She had reserved a private apartment.

Enrolled Lily in an international school.

Hired a local caregiver.

Everything appeared permanent.

The small travel bag contained only enough clothes for several days because new clothing waited there.

Lily’s belongings were not forgotten.

They were considered replaceable.

That detail affected me strangely.

Her favorite rabbit was packed.

The photograph almost was not.

Lily insisted on carrying it.

Vivian allowed it only because the frame looked ordinary.

Then Lily discovered the hidden note.

Vivian moved the departure earlier by eighteen hours.

My meeting was supposed to keep me away.

A fake message from my assistant said the Boston client requested dinner.

I never received it because the client called directly to cancel.

That mistake brought me home.

Vivian had manipulated my schedule through access to the family calendar.

Again, legitimate permission used for an illegitimate goal.

Police found a written timeline inside her laptop.

18:00 — Daniel remains in Boston.

18:30 — Lily sedated for flight.

19:00 — Car collects luggage and passengers.

The word sedated stopped me.

Lily’s toxicology screen was negative.

Vivian had not yet given her anything.

A pediatric medication had been packed in the travel bag.

Prescribed to another child.

Vivian claimed it was for emergencies.

Investigators treated it as evidence of intention.

Lily remembered being told she would receive “sleepy medicine” in the car.

She refused.

Vivian placed her inside the suitcase before reaching that step.

My early arrival interrupted the sequence.

The case was no longer only attempted custodial interference.

It involved confinement and preparation to medically control a child during travel.

Vivian’s bail was denied.

When informed, she cried.

Then she asked whether the trust would pay her legal fees.

Even in crisis, she saw the money first.
