Chapter 16 - THE PAYMENT MADE BEFORE THE CRASHAmelia did not describe how the car might have been altered.

She was not certain.
She described what she knew.
Vivian entered the garage without permission.
A maintenance contractor arrived the next morning despite no scheduled appointment.
Vivian claimed Charles Hartwell’s estate sent him.
Amelia refused the service.
The contractor returned while she was at work.
A neighbor saw the van.
When Amelia confronted Vivian, her sister said:
“You cannot keep Lily from her own blood.”
Amelia recorded the conversation.
The audio was inside the blue-room device.
Vivian’s voice was clear.
“If Daniel remains her guardian, the trust becomes useless.”
Amelia answered:
“The trust is for Lily, not you.”
Vivian said:
“Then you should have thought about that before having a child.”
No direct murder confession.
A motive.
A threat.
A documented presence.
Payment to the contractor.
Altered report.
Concealed evidence.
The reopened investigation led to additional charges involving conspiracy, obstruction, and Amelia’s death.
Vivian continued denying intent.
Then her Swiss attorney cooperated.
He possessed a message she sent after the crash.
Amelia is gone. Begin the alternate guardian plan.
The timestamp was eleven minutes before police publicly confirmed Amelia’s death.
Vivian knew.
How?
Phone records placed her near the accident route.
She told us she had been in New York.
A toll camera showed her vehicle in Connecticut.
The case became stronger.
I sat through every briefing.
Never in front of Lily.
She knew Vivian faced serious trouble.
She did not need adult horror in full detail.
Her mother’s memory should not become only a crime file.
At home, we spoke about Amelia’s jokes.
The songs she sang badly.
Her habit of burning toast.
The way she tied Lily’s shoelaces twice.

Evidence told how Amelia feared.
I wanted Lily to know how she loved.
