THE $200 MILLION SECRET / Chapter 18 / 20

The Evidence on the Old Phone

Ethan returned to California with the recording.

Michael was waiting.

He looked older.

More tired.

But relieved.

Ethan placed the old phone on the table.

“This contains everything.”

Michael nodded.

“I know.”

They played the recording.

Margaret's voice filled the room.

She revealed that Daniel Cross had secretly created a second company.

That company had been used to steal billions.

The evidence had been hidden inside an encrypted archive.

The password was not a number.

It was a sentence.

The final words of Ethan's mother's first letter.

“Family is worth more than fortune.”

Ethan entered the phrase.

The archive opened.

Inside were bank transfers.

Corporate contracts.

Photographs.

Voice recordings.

And one video.

Daniel Cross appeared on screen.

He was younger.

Angry.

He was speaking to Victor Hale.

“You will blame Michael.”

Victor answered,

“And Margaret?”

Daniel smiled.

“She'll disappear.”

Ethan stared at the screen.

This was the proof.

Daniel had orchestrated everything.

The theft.

The disappearance.

The threats.

The cover-up.

But there was more.

The video showed Daniel meeting Robert Mason only months earlier.

Robert was instructed to manipulate Ethan's company.

The $200 million investment had been targeted.

Daniel planned to steal the entire fund.

Ethan looked at Michael.

“You knew.”

Michael nodded.

“I knew he would eventually come for you.”

“And you let him?”

“No.”

Michael smiled faintly.

“I gave him a reason to expose himself.”

The birthday party had been the beginning.

The canceled investment had been the bait.

Every move had forced Daniel closer.

Now Ethan had the evidence.

But there was one final recording.

Daniel's voice said,

“If Ethan discovers the truth, eliminate him.”

The room became silent.

Ethan looked at his father.

Michael's expression hardened.

“It's over.”

May you like

But outside the house...

a black car had just stopped.
