Nothing criminal like that.

Schedule reports.

CCTV tagging.

Visitor notes.

An internal file:

spoke with archives clerk.

spent 14 minutes in east hallway.

asked payroll about old employee records.

She felt violated.

“I knew.”

Enzo looked.

“You suspected.”

“I felt watched.”

“Same.”

“No.”

She became angry.

“Don’t correct language.”

He stopped.

“Sorry.”

She read more.

One note:

Subject observed touching necklace under collar.

Three months before gala.

Photo attached.

Seraphina’s alert likely led monitoring increase.

Another:

No evidence subject knows historical claim.

They had evaluated her ignorance.

Class contempt.

Marina cried.

Enzo wanted destroy file.

Claire said no.

Evidence.

Marina kept copy.

Not to obsess.

To remember systems.

Enzo fired? Legacy security executives involved had followed lawful-seeming instructions from family elders; independent review led terminations/discipline depending roles. Daniel had not known because separate legacy unit.

He dismantled unit.

Marina returned to Ravenna one evening to collect final personal item left in old staff locker.

Her burgundy uniform.

She had forgotten.

She held.

Seraphina happened to be there? Maybe not; avoid contrived.

Marina walked ballroom.

Same marble.

No gala.

Staff setting tables.

A young server dropped fork.

Nothing happened.

Marina stood where tray fell.

She did not feel triumphant.

Just tired.

Enzo joined after asking.

“You okay?”

“Yes.”

“Want sell house?”

She laughed.

“You ask me like I own.”

“You own zero percent.”

“Good.”

He looked around.

“I used to think this place was family.”

“And now?”

“A building.”

Progress.

She took uniform home.

Not shame.

Work history.

Later donated most, kept apron? Maybe.

Gabriel saw.

“You’re keeping?”

“Yes.”

“Because I did that job.”

“Fair.”

Their relationship became serious.

He did not propose yet.

Sofia adored Marina.

Marina feared stepmother role because wealth/publicity.

Therapy.

She told Gabriel:

“I don’t want to become woman who buys child’s love.”

“Then don’t.”

“She likes you because you let her order dessert before me.”

“Strategic.”

Normal.

Meanwhile Enzo and Seraphina approached possible reconciliation.

They attended couples discernment counseling despite not together.

Why?

Because both still loved.

First session:

Therapist asked:

“Why return?”

Enzo:

“I miss her.”

Seraphina:

“I don’t want our worst year to define entire relationship.”

“Why not return?”

Enzo:

“I don’t trust her.”

Seraphina:

“I don’t trust myself around his silence.”

Good.

They discussed affair.

Family control.

Gala cruelty.

Enzo’s emotional withdrawal.

Seraphina’s need for public validation.

No equivalence.

Hitting tray/humiliation hers.

Infidelity hers.

Withdrawal his.

Therapist:

“You can own context without transferring responsibility.”

They decided not reconcile yet.

But date once a month?

Maybe.

They began from zero.

No engagement ring.

No family merger.

Coffee.

Walk.

Dinner.

No sex for first three months by agreement because physical chemistry could bypass trust.

Hard.

Seraphina joked:

“We’ve become Catholic without religion.”

Enzo laughed.

Eventually kissed.

Slow.

Marina teased.

“You two are exhausting.”

Enzo:

“You with Gabriel?”

“None of your business.”

“Exactly.”

Boundaries.

August from prison wrote Seraphina.

First letters blamed.

She stopped reading.

Months later one letter changed.

I used you because I believed giving you power excused taking choices. I told myself you would thank me when marriage made you secure. I did not care whether you were free.

She read.

Cried.

Did not forgive yet.

She sent one response:

I love you. I am not ready to see you. Both are true.

That mirrored entire story.

Love not access.

Marina approved? She didn't need.

Seraphina stopped asking others whether feelings valid.

Growth.

Salvatore served sentence, later home confinement due age/health? Maybe. He wrote Enzo too.

Enzo kept distance.

Family Sunday dinners shrank.
