Chapter 24 - THE TRAY FALLS AGAINAt Ravenna House, Enzo and Seraphina hosted an annual scholarship dinner.

Not engagement gala.
Smaller.
Professional.
Marina attended as donor/guest.
About 120 people.
No riding crop.
During reception, a nineteen-year-old server named Hannah caught heel on rug.
Tray tilted.
Champagne glasses crashed.
CLANG.
The sound cut through ballroom.
Marina froze.
For one second:
Seraphina above her.
Marble.
Knees.
“Clean my shoes.”
Her body remembered before mind.
Seraphina remembered too.
She was closest.
She stepped toward Hannah.
The girl went pale.
“I’m so sorry, Mrs. Caravelli.”
Seraphina looked at broken glass.
Then:
“Are you hurt?”
“No.”
“Then step back so you don’t cut yourself.”
Staff manager came.
Seraphina did not touch tray.
Did not perform redemption.
She simply moved guests away.
Marina watched.
Their eyes met.
No words.
Later Seraphina approached.
“I hated that sound.”
“Me too.”
“I wanted to apologize again.”
“You don’t need every time glass breaks.”
Seraphina laughed.
“Good.”
Marina looked at her.
“I meant what I said. I forgave you.”
“I know.”
“I’m still learning to forgive me.”
“That’s not my job.”
“I know.”
They hugged.
This time not awkward.
Maybe they had become friends.
Not because story needed women reconcile.
Because years of consistent behavior can change relationships.
Then Hannah the server came with replacement tray.
Marina stopped.
“Hey.”
“Yes?”
“You okay?”
“Yes.”
“Good.”
Hannah smiled.
May you like
No one knew why moment mattered.
That was fine.
