Chapter 19 - DEREK’S APOLOGY
Derek requested to apologize to Beatrice.
She refused.
Then later agreed to written letter.
He wrote:
“I used your communication impairment as justification not to insist on direct informed consent. I allowed personal feelings for Monica to override professional obligations. I returned money but cannot return trust.”
Beatrice read.
Then asked Gavin:
“Good?”
He shrugged.
“Better than nothing.”
She typed:
NO RESPONSE
Her choice.
Derek rebuilt career outside finance? He was barred. He worked operations for nonfinancial company after years. He and Monica never resumed contact.
Monica once told Gavin:
“I thought Derek understood me.”
Gavin:
“He understood version you gave.”
“Same with you.”
“That hurts.”
“True.”
