Chapter 20 - TYLER GETS IN TROUBLE
At fourteen, Tyler got caught drinking beer at a friend’s basement party.
Gavin was furious.
Monica too.
He lied first.
Then admitted.
This mattered because family could overinterpret.
Monica said:
“Don’t turn him into evidence.”
Gavin looked.
She had learned.
They imposed consequences:
grounded two weeks.
No parties for month.
conversation about alcohol.
No dramatic “you’re becoming dangerous.”
Tyler protested:
“You guys did worse.”
Monica laughed bitterly.
“Correct.”
“That does not make beer legal at fourteen.”
He hated logic.
Good.
Later Tyler said:
“Are you disappointed?”
Monica:
“Yes.”
“I still believe you.”
That sentence hit him.
The boy once feared no one believed now had parents who could believe and discipline simultaneously.
