Chapter 23 - WHAT HE SHOULD HAVE SEENDaniel began therapy.

He told nobody except Eleanor.

She said:

“Good.”

No drama.

No praise.

Just approval.

He talked about work.

Travel.

Marriage.

Why he ignored discomfort.

Why Vanessa’s confidence felt like truth.

Why he had always assumed conflict could wait until he came home.

The therapist asked:

“What did success mean to you?”

Daniel answered:

“Providing.”

“And presence?”

He had no answer.

That hurt.

He began restructuring his company.

Fewer trips.

Delegation.

Not because fathers should never travel.

Because Daniel had used work to avoid tension at home.

He admitted that.

He could not undo the past.

But he could stop repeating patterns that made disconnection easier.

With Sophie, he learned patience.

With Eleanor, respect for her independence.

He did not turn them into fragile people.

Protection without control.

That was the lesson Vanessa had never learned.
