“Do you want Grandma visit with Dr. Rachel?”
“Sunny?”
“Sunny can wait outside.”
“Okay.”
Margot arrived no gifts.

“Hi, Poppy.”
Poppy stared.
“Did you send lady?”
Margot had practiced truthful answer.
“I made a bad decision that helped the lady come to party.”
“I should never have done that.”
“I did not want her to scare you the way she did.”
“But what I chose helped it happen.”
“I’m sorry.”
Poppy:
“Did you tell her trash?”
“No.”
“Did you tell tie?”
“No.”
“Did you tell hide?”
Margot’s eyes filled.
“Yes.”
“I agreed to hiding game.”
“That was wrong.”
Poppy frowned.
“Why?”
“Because I wanted your mommy scared.”
“Why?”
“I wanted her to change a grown-up decision.”
Poppy:
“That’s mean.”
Margot nodded.
“Yes.”
No “but.”
Poppy looked at Rachel.
Then Margot.
“I don’t want hug.”
Margot:
“Okay.”
Good.
Poppy:
“You can sit.”
“I will.”
They colored ten minutes.
Margot left.
In car, cried.
No expectation.
Over months, Poppy allowed short visits.
