SUNNY KNEW WHERE SHE WAS / Chapter 7 / 20

Chapter 7 - “SHE SAID GRANDMA SENT HER”Poppy’s second forensic interview happened two weeks later.

Children’s memories can change under pressure.

So professionals waited.

No family coaching.

Poppy had not been repeatedly questioned.

Rachel Bell used same room.

Poppy drew Sunny first.

“He loud.”

“Was he loud that day?”

“Yes.”

“When?”

“After hide.”

“Did you hear Sunny while you were hiding?”

Poppy nodded.

Important.

Then stranger.

“What did lady say before you went?”

“She said Grandma sent her.”

“What did Grandma send her to do?”

“Surprise.”

“What surprise?”

“Yellow.”

“Something yellow?”

“She said.”

Poppy did not know.

“Did lady tell you anything about Uncle Nolan?”

“Yes.”

“What?”

“He knows hide place.”

“Did Uncle Nolan speak to you?”

“No.”

“Did you see him while with lady?”

Poppy thought.

“No.”

Good.

No invented.

“What happened after you went behind garage?”

“She said we play quiet.”

“I said no.”

“She said Grandma says good girls listen.”

Poppy cried.

Rachel stopped and reassured without suggesting.

Later:

“Did lady hurt you?”

Poppy shook head.

“She scared.”

“Did she tie?”

Poppy nodded.

“Soft.”

“Why?”

“She said no running.”

“I cried.”

“She said sorry.”

“She put me trash.”

“I said yucky.”

“She said clean.”

This aligned:

Theresa panicked but tried reduce physical harm.

Still kidnapping/unlawful restraint.

“She said she’d come back?”

“Yes.”

“After game.”

“What happened?”

“Sunny.”

Sunny’s barking.

Poppy heard.

Then Mommy.

This clarified why she pointed Margot.

A stranger invoked Grandma repeatedly.

Poppy believed grandmother ordered.

When she saw Margot at rescue, she pointed.

Not because Margot physically did.

Elise told Margot through lawyer:

“Poppy believed you sent her.”

Margot replied:

“I understand.”

No defense.

Then Theresa arrested.

Police found her staying at rental property outside Savannah under another name.

She did not resist.

Her attorney advised silence initially.

Digital evidence strong.

She later entered cooperation discussions.

Not immediate confession.

Phone extractions:

Margot messages.

Nolan messages.

Margot:

No harm. Nothing that touches Poppy physically. I want Elise frightened, not the child.

This helped partial.

Then later:

If using Poppy is only way, make it look like security lapse. Two minutes maximum.

Damning.

Nolan:

Two minutes won’t work. She needs to think someone could actually take kid.

Keep P out of sight until search starts.

I’ll handle M.

P likely Poppy.

M Margot.

Theresa:

This is stupid.

Nolan:

You wanted balance payment. Make it convincing.

Then:

No injury. No drugs. Nothing dangerous.

Again intent not harm, but plan still terrible.

Theresa:

Fine. Five mins max.

What happened:

Search began faster.

Family spread.

Theresa trapped behind garage with Poppy.

She could not walk child back without being seen.

She hid child in clean bin expecting retrieve.

Then Sunny.

She fled.

Nolan did not know bin until rescue perhaps.

Margot didn't.

Poppy’s account matched.

Elise read texts.

Anger.

People congratulate no drugs, no injury? As if restraint safe.

No.

They commodified fear.

They treated Poppy as tool.

Elise saw most painful:

Nolan referred to niece as “P.”

Not name.

Transaction.

When confronted, Nolan said:

“I never meant—”

Elise cut.

“Intent keeps coming.”

“You all intended something less awful and call that defense.”

No.

May you like

He cried.

She left.
