Chapter 6 — Helen's Silent Message

# The Glass of Orange Juice

## Chapter 6 — Helen's Silent Message

Daniel spent the entire night reviewing the hallway footage.

Again.

And again.

Each replay made one fact impossible to ignore.

Victoria had poured something into the orange juice before entering the living room.

By sunrise, Daniel had already sent the remaining juice to an independent laboratory for testing.

He told no one.

Not even Victoria.

That morning he visited his mother alone.

Helen sat quietly beside the bedroom window, watching birds gather in the garden.

When she saw Daniel, her tired face softened.

He knelt beside her wheelchair.

"I'm sorry, Mom."

"I should have noticed sooner."

Helen gently placed her trembling hand over his.

Daniel took out a notepad.

"The doctors said writing may be easier than speaking."

He placed a pen between her fingers.

Helen's hand shook violently.

Several attempts failed.

The ink formed only crooked lines.

Finally...

She managed to write a single word.

**Safe.**

Daniel frowned.

"You want to be safe?"

Helen slowly shook her head.

With great effort, she wrote another word beneath it.

**Emma.**

Daniel looked confused.

Then Helen pointed toward the bedroom door.

She slowly shook her head.

Victoria.

Helen wasn't asking Daniel to protect her.

She was asking him to protect Emma.

Daniel suddenly realized something terrifying.

If Victoria believed Emma had seen too much...

The housekeeper could become her next target.

He quietly folded the piece of paper and slipped it into his pocket.

"I promise."

"No one will hurt either of you again."

Outside the bedroom...

Victoria had been standing in the hallway.

She hadn't heard the conversation.

But she had seen Helen writing.

And panic began to spread across her face.
