## Chapter 9 — Victoria Tries to Destroy the Evidence
Victoria realized the mansion had become unusually quiet.
Daniel barely spoke to her.
Emma never left Helen alone.
Security guards suddenly appeared in areas where none had stood before.
Something had changed.
Late that night, she quietly walked into Daniel's private study.
She searched through desk drawers.
Cabinets.
File folders.
Nothing.
Then she noticed a locked evidence envelope resting inside the office safe.
The safe door hadn't fully closed.
Victoria carefully removed the envelope.
Laboratory Report.
Her breathing quickened.
She had just begun reading when a voice interrupted her.
"Looking for something?"
She spun around.
Daniel stood in the doorway.
Behind him stood Emma.
And the family attorney.
Victoria forced a smile.
"I was just cleaning."
Daniel slowly held out his hand.
"Give me the report."
For several seconds...
Neither moved.
Then Victoria suddenly tore the papers in half.
Again.
And again.
Tiny pieces scattered across the floor.
She smiled triumphantly.
"There."
"No report."
"No proof."
Daniel quietly looked toward the attorney.
Benjamin smiled calmly.
"We already have six certified copies."
Victoria's face instantly turned pale.
