Chapter 25 - THE LAST TRANSFER

Adrian’s recording began with Gideon teaching his sixteen-year-old son a lesson.

“People believe signatures more than people.”

The younger Adrian asked what that meant.

“It means truth belongs to whoever controls the document.”

The recording continued through the years.

Gideon discussed shell companies.

False medical reports.

The Caldwell Trust.

Finally, it reached the night of Ethan’s crash.

“Disable the car outside the city.”

“What if he is hurt?” Adrian asked.

“Then Dr. Sloane will decide what the record says.”

Miriam covered her mouth.

She had never agreed to kill Ethan.

Gideon had expected her to certify a false death.

Instead, she kept Ethan alive.

That choice turned her into a prisoner.

Gideon’s expression changed for the first time during the hearing.

Adrian had recorded him.

His own son controlled the truth.

The judge denied bail.

Gideon was returned to custody.

Hours later, an alarm sounded at Meridian Bank.

The suspended transfer restarted.

One hundred and eighty million dollars began moving into overseas accounts.

Gideon had created a delayed authorization before his arrest.

The bank could not cancel it.

Arthur’s restored signature was required.

He entered Vault 71 with Naomi, Ethan and Lila.

The computer rejected his palm.

Gideon had replaced Arthur’s biometric record.

A final message appeared.

ONLY THE THIEF’S CHILD CAN OPEN THE DOOR.

Lila’s profile.

Naomi refused to place her daughter’s hand on the reader.

“They will say she authorized it.”

Ethan replayed the lullaby code.

It contained one final phrase.

THE TRUTH DOES NOT NEED HER HAND.

Lila looked toward the ceiling camera.

“Make it watch the screen.”

Evelyn connected the bank’s camera to the authorization system.

Instead of using Lila’s fingerprint, they played the original footage of Gideon collecting it at the charity event.

The system recognized the source of the stolen biometric data.

A fraud warning appeared.

The transfer stopped.

Every overseas account was frozen.

Arthur looked at Lila.

“You saved the trust.”

“No.”

She pointed toward the camera.

“He got caught stealing my hand.”

The bank returned control to the family.

But when Ortiz reviewed the transfer log, he found one successful payment.

Five hundred thousand dollars had escaped.

It had been sent to Warren’s prison account.

Someone was still trying to make him look guilty.
