Chapter 11 - THE VOICE RECORDING IN THE NURSERYThe nursery had a smart baby monitor.

Installed weeks before Amelia died.

No baby yet.

But Amelia tested it constantly.

It automatically recorded voice-triggered clips to cloud storage.

Julian did not know.

Neither did Leonard.

Amelia did.

Elias found the account credentials taped inside the box.

Most clips were harmless.

Amelia laughing.

Nora arranging clothes.

Music.

Then the afternoon of her death.

4:12 p.m.

Amelia’s voice:

“I’m not signing anything else.”

Julian:

“You already signed.”

Amelia:

“No. Someone used my signature.”

Julian:

“Keep your voice down.”

Amelia:

“I’m calling my father.”

Julian:

“Your father will destroy everyone before he understands what happened.”

Amelia:

“Maybe everyone deserves it.”

Silence.

Then Julian:

“My mother says this can be fixed.”

Amelia:

“Your mother is the reason it exists.”

There.

Marianne.

Harrison listened again.

Julian sounded frightened.

Not commanding.

Amelia continued:

“I’m changing the trust today.”

Julian:

“You canceled Walter.”

Amelia:

“I didn’t.”

Silence.

That was huge.

Julian knew about the fake cancellation email.

Or at least discovered it.

Amelia asked:

“Did you send that?”

Julian:

“No.”

“Then who did?”

No answer.

Clip ended.

Another at 5:38.

Leonard’s voice.

“Mrs. Harrow, Dr. Voss is coming.”

Amelia:

“I didn’t call him.”

Leonard:

“Julian did.”

From farther away Julian shouted:

“No, I didn’t.”

Everyone in the recording stopped.

Harrison felt chills.

Someone had summoned Dr. Voss and told each person someone else did.

Then Leonard:

“Marianne said he should check you.”

Amelia:

“Your mother called my doctor?”

Julian swore.

The clip ended.

Now Marianne’s denial collapsed further.

She had arranged Voss’s arrival.

Why?

The final clip was devastating.

7:11 p.m.

Amelia alone in nursery.

Breathing fast but still coherent.

She spoke to the empty crib.

“Your grandfather is going to be furious when he finds out how stupid I’ve been.”

A small laugh.

Then:

“I thought being married meant trusting people.”

Pause.

“I should’ve called Dad sooner.”

Harrison cried.

Then footsteps.

Marianne was not there.

The voice was male.

Leonard.

“You need to drink this.”

Amelia:

“Where’s Nora?”

“Downstairs.”

“I want Nora.”

“Drink first.”

Amelia:

“No.”

Leonard’s voice changed.

“Amelia, stop making this harder.”

Harrison froze.

Then Julian entered.

“What are you doing?”

Leonard:

“Samuel said she needs this.”

Julian:

“Then let Samuel give it to her.”

Leonard:

“She won’t take it from him.”

Amelia:

“I’m not taking anything.”

Then a crash.

Clip ended.

Harrison replayed.

Julian’s presence complicated his guilt.

He did not sound like someone coordinating.

He sounded confused.

Maybe Julian was corrupt financially.

Maybe he helped cover up after.

But the recording suggested he was not the one pushing the drink.

Leonard was.

And Leonard claimed Voss wanted it.

The question:

May you like

Was Leonard following orders?

Or giving them?
