Chapter 15 - WHY DR. VOSS AGREEDSamuel Voss eventually cooperated.

Not from conscience initially.
From fear.
The medication bottle in Leonard’s office contained Voss’s fingerprints.
Cresthaven money tied to his brother.
His false death certification could destroy his career permanently.
He told the truth.
Or enough of it.
Marianne called him two days before Amelia died.
She said Amelia was experiencing severe anxiety and paranoia.
She wanted Voss to “stabilize” her.
He knew about the financial dispute through Bennett.
He should have refused.
Instead he accepted.
Why?
Money.
Marianne had paid for his clinic expansion indirectly through Cresthaven.
He was compromised.
On the evening of Amelia’s death, he brought a legitimate medication he believed could calm her.
One standard dose.
He insisted.
“What about the additional amount?”
“I did not give it.”
“Did Marianne ask you to?”
“No.”
“Did Leonard?”
“No.”
“What did Leonard ask?”
“Whether more would keep her asleep.”
Voss said he refused.
He told Leonard not to give anything extra.
Then left the pharmacy envelope in the pantry briefly while examining Amelia.
When he returned, it was moved.
He assumed nothing.
That assumption may have killed her.
Later, when Amelia collapsed, Voss realized her condition was far more serious than expected.
He wanted emergency services.
Leonard reminded him:
“If they test her, they’ll know what you gave her.”
Voss panicked.
Julian panicked.
Marianne was on speakerphone.
And she said:
“Samuel, if she is already gone, do not turn this into a criminal circus.”
Voss checked again.
No pulse.
He froze.
The baby was never assessed properly.
That became his deepest shame.
“I should’ve called anyway.”
The investigator said:
“Yes.”
Voss cried.
No one comforted him.
His negligence did not equal intentional killing.
But it helped the plan succeed.
Marianne needed people who were already compromised.
That was the brilliance and ugliness of the conspiracy.
No one had to be ordered:
Kill Amelia.
They only needed reasons to make the next wrong choice.
Leonard had money.
Voss had professional exposure.
Julian had fraud.

Each silence protected the next.
And Amelia was trapped in the center.
