Chapter 6 - WHY NORA WAS BRUISEDNora finally told the full story of her confinement.

After Amelia collapsed, Nora tried to call 911 from the upstairs landing.
Leonard took her phone.
Not violently initially.
He said Dr. Voss had declared the situation medically controlled.
Nora insisted.
Then Julian shouted:
“Stop making this worse.”
Amelia was still conscious.
Nora remembered her reaching weakly toward the nursery.
Then Dr. Voss ordered everyone out.
Nora refused.
Dean Colter escorted her downstairs.
Ten minutes later Leonard came.
“Amelia is gone.”
Nora screamed.
Then asked about the baby.
Leonard said there was nothing anyone could do.
Nora tried to leave.
That was when things changed.
Leonard accused her of stealing jewelry.
Dean and Marcus blocked the service entrance.
Nora pushed past.
She fell against a console table.
Bruises on her arms.
Later, when she tried again, Marcus grabbed her.
More bruising.
No weapons.
No severe beating.
But coercion.
They took her to a basement staff apartment.
Door locked from outside.
Food delivered.
Phone removed.
“Why didn’t you scream?”
“I did.”
“Who heard?”
“Maybe kitchen staff.”
“Why didn’t anyone help?”
Nora looked ashamed for them.
“Leonard said I had attacked Amelia.”
Harrison froze.
“What?”
“He told everyone I was hysterical and had to be contained until police came.”
“No police came.”
“I know.”
“Three days.”
“Yes.”
“Why did Dean and Marcus keep obeying?”
“They were told I was dangerous.”
Harrison brought both men in separately.
Dean broke first.
Leonard told him Nora had assaulted Amelia shortly before her death.
He said family lawyers needed time.
Dean believed him for several hours.
Then realized no police were coming.
“Why didn’t you release her?”
Dean looked down.
“Julian said not to.”
Harrison’s jaw tightened.
There.
Julian had lied.
He knew Nora was confined.
Marcus confirmed.
Julian personally instructed:
“Keep her downstairs until after the funeral.”
Harrison felt controlled fury.
“Why?”
Marcus said Julian claimed Nora was stealing and threatening the family.
“Did you see evidence?”
“No.”
“Did she attack anyone?”
“She scratched me while trying to leave.”
“That is not the same.”
Marcus nodded.
“I know.”
Both men were suspended and turned over to investigators for potential unlawful restraint questions.
They were not treated as masterminds.
They had followed orders they should have questioned.
That distinction mattered.
But Julian’s denial was now proven false.
Harrison confronted him.
Julian’s lawyer was present.
“You told me you didn’t know Nora was being held.”
Julian looked at his attorney.
Then:
“I meant I didn’t know they were hurting her.”
“That is not what I asked.”
“I was grieving.”
“Were you grieving when you ordered them to keep her downstairs until after the funeral?”
Silence.
Julian’s lawyer intervened.
Interview over.
Harrison let him go.
He had the answer he needed.
Julian was hiding something.
May you like
Still not necessarily murder.
But close enough to stop pretending he was simply a grieving husband.
