A burner phone.
A handwritten ledger.
And one small pharmacy bottle.
Investigators did not tell Harrison the exact contents initially.
Later:
Same medication detected in Amelia’s blood.
Prescription label removed.
Leonard claimed it belonged to Dr. Voss.
Fingerprints:
Leonard.
Voss.
No Amelia.
The burner phone contained messages.
Most deleted.
Recovered fragments.
Unknown sender:
She cannot make tomorrow’s meeting.
Leonard:
Understood.
Unknown:
No hospital. Samuel handles certification.
Leonard:
What about the child?
Unknown:
Same outcome.
Harrison had to leave the room when he read that.
Same outcome.
His unborn grandchild reduced to operational language.
Elias followed him.
Harrison stood outside beneath the trees.
For several minutes, he said nothing.
Then:
“Find the sender.”
They did.
Not quickly.
Phone purchased in cash.
Activated in Virginia.
Used for only nine days.
But one location ping placed it repeatedly near Marianne Harrow’s Georgetown townhouse.
Not proof.
Then a security camera from a luxury grocery store captured Marianne’s driver purchasing a prepaid phone with cash.
Driver interviewed.
He said Marianne asked him to buy it.
“For privacy.”
He delivered it to her.
The sender was almost certainly Marianne.
But “almost certainly” had to become evidence.
The driver identified the number format from a receipt retained in his expense envelope.
Match.
Now it was evidence.
Marianne had sent:
No hospital. Samuel handles certification.
The hierarchy became clearer.
Marianne planned.
Leonard executed.
Voss facilitated medical cover.
Julian participated in financial fraud and post-death cover-up but may not have known the death plan.
Harrison hated that nuance.
Julian was still guilty of terrible things.
