Chapter 9 - CHARLES WHITMORE’S WIFEVivian Whitmore contacted Adrian herself.

Not Charles.
She wanted one thing.
“Do you have proof Celeste recorded him?”
“Investigators have devices.”
“Do you have proof she threatened him?”
“Messages.”
Vivian nodded.
Then said:
“I am not helping my husband avoid consequences.”
Adrian respected instantly.
“I understand.”
“I’m helping because what Celeste did should not happen to another family.”
Charles had betrayed Vivian.
Celeste had exploited betrayal.
Both true.
Vivian refused to let one erase other.
She provided old messages Celeste sent from anonymous numbers.
No intimate material shown.
Only threats.
You know what I have.
You know who receives it if you stop paying.
Think about your children.
Adrian’s anger rose.
Celeste weaponized spouses and children who had done nothing.
Then Vivian said:
“She contacted me once.”
Adrian looked up.
“When?”
“Before Charles confessed.”
Anonymous message:
Your husband has secrets. Ask him why he keeps paying women he claims he doesn’t know.
Celeste was beginning to punish him for refusing third payment.
She wanted Vivian suspicious enough to make Charles panic.
Then she withdrew threat after Charles transferred smaller amount.
It was psychological extortion.
Adrian asked:
“Did you ever meet Celeste?”
“Yes.”
That surprised him.
“Where?”
“A charity dinner.”
“After the affair?”
“Yes.”
Vivian laughed bitterly.
“She complimented my marriage.”
Celeste stood across from wife of man she was blackmailing and praised their relationship.
The audacity made Adrian feel physically ill.
Then Vivian looked at him.
“She did similar with you, didn’t she?”
“What?”
“Performed exactly what you wanted to see.”
Yes.
Celeste met Adrian when he was grieving loneliness after Noah’s mother, Elena Vale, died from complications after a sudden illness the previous year.
She presented herself as patient.
Independent.
Maternal without overstepping.
She told him:
“I have my own money. I don’t need yours.”
He had loved that.
Now every sentence looked constructed.
Vivian said:
“Men like Charles wanted secrecy.”
“What did you want?”
Adrian answered:
“Stability for my son.”
“And she became that.”
“Yes.”
Vivian nodded.
“So she sold each of you a different product.”
Exactly.
To Charles:
desire without consequence.
To Gavin:
promise of repayment.
To Adrian:
a trustworthy family.
Celeste did not just manipulate people.
She identified what they were desperate to believe.
Then Vivian gave one last piece.
Charles remembered another name from insurance folder.
D.M.
A man Celeste called “the judge.”
If true, she had blackmailed someone inside legal system.

That could explain why some previous complaints disappeared.
The story widened again.
