## Chapter 12 — Emily Finally Told the Whole Truth
The FBI convoy raced toward Los Angeles Executive Airport with sirens echoing through the early morning darkness. Ethan sat silently beside Agent Mercer, staring out the window as the city lights blurred past. He had spent the last twelve hours discovering that his marriage had been built on lies and that his company had been targeted for years. Yet one question still haunted him.
Why had Emily never walked away?
Mercer glanced at him.
"When this is over, you'll finally have every answer."
"I'm not sure I want them anymore," Ethan replied quietly.
Meanwhile, at FBI headquarters, Emily sat alone inside an interview room. She had agreed to cooperate fully after realizing Lucas had manipulated her from the very beginning. Every lie she had believed was now collapsing before her eyes.
Mercer contacted the office through a secure video call.
"Emily," he said, "we've located Charles, but we still need to know exactly where Lucas planned to meet him."
Emily hesitated.
"I don't know."
Mercer's expression remained calm.
"Think carefully."
"There has to be something you've remembered."
Emily closed her eyes.
Fragments of conversations replayed inside her mind.
Luxury hotels.
Business trips.
Private dinners.
Then one memory suddenly stood out.
Three weeks earlier, Lucas had received a phone call while they were having dinner. He had stepped outside to answer it, believing she couldn't hear him.
She remembered one sentence perfectly.
"Hangar Twelve is safer than the marina."
Emily opened her eyes.
"Hangar Twelve."
Mercer immediately wrote it down.
"Anything else?"
She nodded slowly.
"He also said Charles would bring the documents himself because he trusted no one else."
Mercer exchanged a glance with Ethan.
That confirmed Charles wasn't merely financing the operation.
He was leading it.
Emily lowered her head.
"There is something else."
Mercer waited.
"The affair..."
"It wasn't supposed to last."
"I tried to end it more than once."
Ethan looked at her without speaking.
"Every time I tried, Lucas threatened me."
"Threatened you?"
Emily nodded through tears.
"He said if I left him, he'd send photos and videos to Ethan."
"I thought my marriage was already falling apart."
"I was terrified of destroying what was left."
Mercer leaned forward.
"Did he ever threaten Sophie?"
Emily's face turned pale.
"Yes."
Her voice barely rose above a whisper.
"He knew which school she attended."
"He knew which park Ethan took her to every Saturday."
"He said accidents happen to children every day."
Ethan's fists tightened.
For the first time since discovering the affair, his anger shifted away from Emily.
Lucas hadn't simply seduced his wife.
He had trapped her.
Emily continued crying.
"I'm not asking you to forgive me."
"I betrayed you."
"I made my own choices."
"But I swear..."
"I never wanted anyone to get hurt."
Ethan remained silent for several moments.
Finally, he spoke.
"I believe you."
Emily looked up hopefully.
He continued.
"But believing you doesn't erase what happened."
She nodded.
"I know."
Mercer's phone suddenly rang.
He answered immediately.
After listening for several seconds, he stood.
"The tactical team has visual confirmation."
"Charles and Lucas are both inside Hangar Twelve."
He looked toward Ethan.
"It's over."
Ethan slowly stood.
"No."
He looked through the interview room window toward the rising sun.
"It's only beginning."
