**Chapter 13 — Lucas Makes One Last Desperate Move**

The Birthday Surprise
Chapter 13 — The Trap at Hangar Twelve

The FBI convoy arrived at Los Angeles Executive Airport just as dawn painted the horizon with streaks of orange and gold. Hangar Twelve stood alone at the far end of the private terminal, its massive steel doors partially open. A sleek Gulfstream jet sat on the runway with its engines already humming, ready for takeoff.

Special Agent David Mercer signaled his tactical team to spread out.

"No one fires unless absolutely necessary," he ordered through his radio. "Our priority is to take them alive."

Ethan stood behind one of the armored SUVs, watching the hangar through narrowed eyes. He had never imagined that the worst day of his life would end with federal agents preparing to arrest the man he had called family for more than two decades.

Inside the hangar, Charles Harrison checked his watch impatiently.

"We're running out of time," he said.

Lucas paced nervously beside several aluminum briefcases.

"The FBI knows."

Charles looked up.

"They know enough to chase us."

"They don't know enough to stop us."

Lucas wasn't convinced.

"They recovered my phone."

Charles's expression darkened.

"You should have destroyed it."

"I didn't have the chance."

Charles shook his head.

"One careless mistake."

"That's all it takes."

Before Lucas could respond, floodlights suddenly illuminated the entire hangar.

"FBI! Don't move!"

More than a dozen agents rushed through every entrance with weapons raised.

Lucas instinctively lifted both hands.

Charles did the opposite.

He grabbed one of the briefcases and sprinted toward the waiting jet.

Mercer shouted, "Stop!"

Charles ignored him.

As he reached the aircraft stairs, Ethan stepped directly into his path.

For several long seconds, neither man moved.

Charles stared at Ethan with surprising calm.

"You shouldn't have come."

Ethan's voice was steady.

"You shouldn't have betrayed my father."

Charles sighed.

"Your father was too trusting."

"And so were you."

He held up the briefcase.

"Do you know what's inside?"

"I don't care."

"You should."

Charles slowly opened the case.

Instead of cash, it contained original ownership documents, offshore account records, forged contracts, and decades of hidden financial transfers.

"This," Charles said quietly, "is everything required to control Harrison Technologies."

"You could still have all of it."

Ethan looked at the papers before meeting Charles's eyes.

"I'd rather lose every dollar than become the man you are."

For the first time, Charles's confidence cracked.

Mercer stepped forward.

"Charles Harrison, you're under arrest for conspiracy, fraud, money laundering, and attempted obstruction of justice."

Charles slowly released the briefcase.

The metal case hit the concrete floor with a heavy thud.

Lucas closed his eyes.

The game was over.

As agents placed handcuffs on both men, Ethan believed the nightmare had finally ended.

He had no idea one final truth was still waiting for him.
