Chapter 21 - NOAH FACES HIS MOTHER

Noah agreed to one supervised meeting before Victoria’s criminal trial.
He did not go alone.
Counselor Evelyn Price sat beside him.
A child advocate observed through glass.
Victoria entered wearing a cream blouse instead of burgundy.
She appeared softer.
Less connected to the staged scene.
“Noah.”
He did not answer.
“I miss you.”
He looked at her.
“Do you miss me or what I was supposed to say?”
Pain crossed her face.
“You are my son.”
“Then why did you tell Dad I was confused?”
“I thought Daniel influenced you.”
“You knew he didn’t.”
Victoria looked toward the glass.
“Adults make mistakes.”
“You planned it.”
She changed direction.
“Your grandfather was trying to take control of your trust.”
“He gave it to independent people.”
“He wants you to believe he is noble.”
Noah remained silent.
Victoria leaned closer.
“Your father signed the transfer.”
“He didn’t read it.”
“That is his fault.”
“Yes.”
The agreement surprised her.
Noah had learned that accepting Ryan’s mistake did not require accepting her crime.
“You destroyed our family,” Victoria said.
Evelyn moved to end the meeting.
Noah raised one hand.
He wanted to answer.
“I opened a door.”
Victoria frowned.
“What?”
“My bedroom door.”
He remembered the night.
The scream.
Ryan entering.
Daniel raising his hands.
Victoria smiling behind Ryan.
“I came out and told Dad what I saw.”
“You lied.”
“No.”
Noah’s voice remained calm.
“You needed the door closed because the truth was behind it.”
Victoria’s composure cracked.
“You are nine years old.”
“Yes.”
“You do not understand marriage, business or family loyalty.”
“I understand pretending to cry.”
The advocate ended the meeting.
Victoria stood suddenly.
“You will regret choosing Daniel.”
Noah stepped toward the exit.
“I chose the truth.”
Outside, Ryan waited.
Noah walked toward him.
“Did you hear?”
“No. The meeting was private.”
Noah looked relieved.
Ryan had not tried to listen secretly.
That mattered.
“Do you want to tell me?” Ryan asked.
“Not today.”
Ryan nodded.
They left together.
Noah did not look back.
May you like
Inside the room, Victoria remained seated.
For the first time, there was no audience left to convince.
