Chapter 22 - VICTORIA CALLS HIM CONFUSED

At trial, Victoria changed her defense.

She no longer claimed Daniel attacked her deliberately.

She claimed the entire event resulted from misunderstanding.

Daniel confronted her.

She panicked.

She tore the blouse accidentally.

She slapped her cheek while pushing him away.

Noah interpreted the scene incorrectly.

Ryan overreacted.

Julian stole the money.

Every decision became an accident.

The prosecutor played her first police statement.

Daniel grabbed me.

Then the second.

Daniel pushed my face against the door.

Then the hearing.

Noah saw only the end.

Then the trial.

It was all a misunderstanding.

The versions could not coexist.

Victoria’s attorney attacked Noah’s reliability.

He had changed his story once.

He had hidden a recording device.

He disliked his mother’s rules.

He wanted his parents separated.

Noah testified privately.

“Why did you change your story?” the attorney asked.

“I was scared.”

“Could you be scared now?”

“Yes.”

“Then how can the jury trust what you say?”

Noah thought carefully.

“Because there are pictures.”

The attorney paused.

“There are recordings.”

Another pause.

“And Grandpa was standing far away.”

Noah did not ask the jury to rely only on him.

He connected his account to independent facts.

The attorney tried again.

“Isn’t it possible you misunderstood your mother’s actions?”

“She looked in the TV before she screamed.”

“What does that prove?”

“She was checking how she looked.”

The living-room television had been off.

Its dark screen reflected the room.

Forensic technicians recovered touch marks from the glass.

Victoria’s fingerprints appeared at face level.

A low-resolution thumbnail showed her adjusting her hair using the reflection.

Noah’s observation was confirmed again.

The prosecutor asked Victoria why she called her own son confused.

“To protect him from Daniel.”

“Did you believe he was confused before he accused you?”

“No.”

“Did his confusion begin only when he contradicted you?”

Victoria had no safe answer.

The prosecutor displayed her messages to Julian.

Noah saw me. I’ll say Daniel coached him.

The plan was written before any alleged confusion.

Victoria had not misunderstood Noah.

She had predicted the truth.

Then prepared to discredit the child who knew it.
