Chapter 22 - THE CLOUD BACKUP

Grant’s company claimed the neighborhood security archive had been destroyed.

Tessa Monroe knew that was impossible.

Collins Smart Living maintained an emergency cloud backup outside California.

Grant had hidden it from investigators.

Tessa remembered the access structure.

The backup required authorization from two company executives.

Grant was one.

The second was Madison.

Captain Ward obtained a court order.

Madison refused the password.

The court compelled her.

The archive opened.

It contained years of deleted footage.

Grant threatening contractors.

Madison photographing residents.

HOA officers altering violation records.

The complete accident appeared from three camera angles.

One camera showed Ethan’s foot contacting the ball.

Another showed the sprinkler deflection.

The third showed Madison watching everything.

There was no possibility that she misunderstood.

She saw the bounce.

She saw Ethan run forward to apologize.

Then she turned toward Rebecca and said:

“Your son attacked my daughter.”

The lie had been immediate.

Calculated.

A second recording captured Grant arriving later.

Madison whispered to him:

“If Rebecca admits her boy is violent, we can invoke the child safety clause.”

The accident had become an eviction strategy before Ethan’s blood dried.

The neighborhood meeting watched the footage in silence.

Ethan sat between Michael and Rebecca.

Ava entered through the rear doors.

Her temporary guardian walked beside her.

Madison stood.

“You should not be here.”

Ava continued toward the front.

“You said family protects family.”

“Yes.”

“You meant family protects lies.”

Madison moved into the aisle.

Michael’s body camera was active.

Nora’s portable camera was active.

The meeting’s official livestream was active.

Madison did not know which lens to watch.

Ava stood before the room.

“I lied because my mother told me love meant choosing her version.”

Madison grabbed her arm.

Ava cried out.

Michael stepped forward.

“Release her.”

Madison raised her other hand.

Not toward Ethan this time.

Toward her own daughter.

The entire room saw it.

And two cameras were broadcasting live.
