He reduced travel by thirty percent.

He skipped one investor retreat for school science night.
Nobody died.
This surprised him.
He had built identity around indispensability.
Mabel once told:
“Important men often confuse being unavailable with being necessary.”
He remembered.
At science night Jasper volcano failed.
Elliot and Valerie both there.
Jasper furious.
Mabel not.
That mattered.
He looked instinctively toward door.
Then handled.
“Want help?”
“No.”
“Okay.”
Minutes later:
“Dad?”
“Yes.”
“Help.”
Elliot helped.
Simple.
He learned bedtime.
Teacher names.
Favorite music.
That Jasper hated socks seams.
He still missed things.
Once forgot soccer game.
Jasper angry.
Elliot did not buy gift.
He apologized and attended next.
Mabel no longer absorbed fallout.
That exposed parenting work.
Healthy.
Marriage with Valerie also changed.
They entered couples therapy.
Valerie confronted his absences.
Elliot confronted her control.
No affair.
No easy villain.
They considered separation briefly.
Ultimately stayed, with conditions.
Not because image.
Because still loved and chose rebuild.
Valerie said:
“I don’t want marriage where staff makes us look functional.”
Elliot:
“Neither.”
They hired help ethically.
