Chapter 19 - LOGAN CHOOSES HIS WIFE AND SONLogan hated phrase “choose wife over mother.”

It sounded juvenile.

Like women competing.

The actual choice was simpler:

Which family unit did he have responsibility to protect first?

His household.

His spouse.

Child.

Marriage.

Darlene remained mother.

But she could not govern.

He articulated in therapy session with her.

“Mom, I love you.”

“I know.”

“I am not abandoning.”

“I know.”

“But Megan is not visitor in Avery family.”

“She is my family.”

“Finn is ours, not yours and mine.”

Darlene cried.

“I understand.”

“If you criticize her parenting to relatives, visits pause.”

“If you enter without permission, visits pause.”

“If you discuss property or estate with Finn eventually, not your role.”

“If you give gifts, no strings.”

“If you help, it doesn’t buy authority.”

She nodded.

“And I also have responsibilities.”

Darlene looked.

“I should have told you before deployment boundaries.”

“I should not have used you as default support.”

“I should not have assumed Megan would handle.”

“I should not pretend my absence means I get hero credit now.”

Megan looked at him.

Proud but no worship.

Darlene:

“You’re a good son.”

Logan:

“I’m trying be good husband/father too.”

“That doesn’t make you bad son.”

First time she said.

Important.

Logan chose not by cutting mother.

By ending hierarchy where mother outranked wife.

Megan returned work three days weekly eventually.

Logan adjusted schedule when possible.

Daycare.

Rachel.

Darlene did not become childcare by default.

After long period and therapy, supervised/short babysitting began.

Megan chose.

First time:

Two hours while Megan/Logan dinner nearby.

Darlene followed instructions.

No criticism.

Finn happy.

Trust rebuild not erase.

Trevor remained no contact longer.

Logan said:

“I may forgive eventually.”

“Not now.”

Good.

He also decided not leave Army immediately despite family pressure.

Deployment possible future.

But next time:

Clear legal documents.

No unnecessary POAs.

Independent planning.

Megan fully informed.

Darlene not authority.

He and Megan discussed.

“If you deploy again, I tell everything.”

“Yes.”

“Even if annoying.”

“Especially.”

He smiled.

Home was secure not because Logan always physically there.

May you like

Because Megan’s authority respected.

That is real protection.
