Chapter 8 - THE CLEANER NOBODY BELIEVED

Guests flooded the corridors.
Red lights flashed.
Announcements directed everyone toward the exits.
I recognized the pattern.
Create confusion.
Move through workers.
Disappear while wealthy people expect service staff to become invisible.
Gregory wore a maintenance jacket.
Julian entered through a loading dock wearing a paramedic coat.
Hotel cameras captured both.
They were trying to reach the server room.
I saw Julian first.
He passed my cleaning cart without recognizing me.
For three years, people looked through my uniform.
Now invisibility helped me.
I called security quietly.
Did not follow.
Did not confront him.
The server room sealed automatically.
Julian found the door locked.
Gregory appeared at the opposite corridor.
They argued.
“You said she had the original drive,” Gregory snapped.
“She gave them a copy.”
I recorded the words from behind a service doorway.
Julian heard my breathing.
He turned.
Our eyes met.
His face changed.
He rushed toward me.
I pulled the fire door closed.
Security arrived before he could open it.
Julian was arrested.
Gregory ran toward the garage.
Vanessa blocked the elevator remotely.
Police detained him inside.
The fire alarm had been activated manually.
No actual fire.
No injury.
Only panic created as cover.
The cleaner no one believed had become the witness they could not dismiss.

Not because I suddenly looked important.
Because I preserved evidence and called trained people instead of trying to become a hero.
