Chapter 24 - TRUST IS NOT INHERITEDDorothy met Henry to finalize her documents.

“Any changes to the will?”

“Minor.”

“Punitive?”

“No.”

Henry smiled.

“Good.”

Dorothy looked out the window.

“I spent too much of my life thinking about what my sons would receive after I die.”

Henry waited.

“I’d like to start protecting how I live before I do.”

So they did.

Rosehaven remained hers.

No transfer.

No early gifts.

No assumptions.

Jonah retained power of attorney only if Dorothy became unable to act.

Cole could earn future trust.

But authority would not be restored merely because time passed.

The estate plan remained broadly fair.

Dorothy did not reward Jonah by stripping Cole.

That would transform money into another weapon.

She refused.

When Cole asked whether he was still in the will, Dorothy answered:

“Yes.”

He looked stunned.

“Why?”

“Because estate planning is not revenge.”

He cried.

Dorothy continued.

“But understand something.”

He waited.

“Trust is not inherited.”

Cole nodded.

“I know.”

That time, she believed he had begun to understand.
