Chapter 11 - FORTY-SEVEN MISSING MINUTES

The cloud account contained one unexplained gap.
Forty-seven minutes were missing from the night before Daniel returned.
The security light detected motion.
Then its system was disabled.
When it came back online, Noah was inside the doghouse.
Claire and Everett had disappeared into the mansion.
Detective Cole believed something important happened during those minutes.
Noah refused to discuss it.
Whenever Daniel asked, the boy touched his neck and became silent.
Dr. Morgan advised him to stop.
“He will speak when his body believes the danger has passed.”
Daniel wanted answers.
Noah needed control.
The difference mattered.
Police searched the backyard.
Near the wooden fence, they found a damaged memory card.
It had been crushed beneath a luxury heel.
The card belonged to Claire’s home camera.
Most data was destroyed.
One audio fragment remained.
Everett said:
He copied the ledger.
Claire answered:
Then search him.
A child cried out.
The next section was unreadable.
Daniel left the evidence room.
He found Noah drawing at Marisol’s apartment, where they stayed temporarily.
The mansion remained a crime scene.
Noah drew the doghouse again.
This time, a man stood beside it.
“What is he holding?” Daniel asked.
Noah covered the drawing.
Daniel backed away.
“You don’t have to show me.”
The boy studied him.
Then he uncovered the page.
The man held Daniel’s black leather travel bag.
“Everett had my bag?”
Noah nodded.
Daniel had left a spare travel bag at home.
Claire used it to store documents.
Noah saw Everett carrying it toward the doghouse during the missing forty-seven minutes.
They believed Noah hid a copied ledger inside.
Everett searched the doghouse.
Then he searched Noah.
When he found nothing, Claire tightened a cord around the door handles.
“Did he hurt you?” Daniel asked.
Noah looked toward Marisol.
She waited.
Finally, Noah whispered:
“He said accidents happen to boys who spy.”
Daniel’s controlled expression disappeared.
He stood.
Noah flinched.
Daniel stopped immediately.
“I’m not angry at you.”
The boy knew.
But his body still reacted to an adult standing too quickly.
Daniel sat down again.
“Where is the copied ledger?”
Noah pointed toward the drawing.
Inside the picture, the doghouse roof was colored blue.
Police returned to the backyard.
Beneath one roof panel, they found a sealed plastic bag.
May you like
Inside was a handwritten copy of every stolen transfer.
Noah had written it himself.
