“DAD… CHECK HER BAG” / Chapter 18 / 25

Chapter 18 - MARLENE BLAMES REBECCAWhen evidence became overwhelming, Marlene changed story.

Rebecca had asked.

She claimed:

“Rebecca knew Daniel could collapse after her death.”

“She begged me protect Lily.”

“She gave me medication.”

“She wanted contingency plan.”

Daniel knew some plausible.

Rebecca did worry.

So he checked.

Sophie Trent produced records.

Rebecca’s actual plan:

independent trustee.

Claire Hastings guardian if Daniel unable.

Marlene as supervised family support—not fiduciary.

Not Marlene control.

Then Marlene produced signed “Family Support Memorandum” allegedly Rebecca.

It said:

I authorize Marlene Prescott to take any necessary steps to preserve Daniel and Lily’s financial welfare should Daniel become impaired.

Signature Rebecca.

Date two months before death.

Sophie had never seen.

Forensic examined.

Document metadata:

created three months after Rebecca died.

Signature image copied from older medical authorization.

There.

Forgery.

Marlene claimed someone else prepared from Rebecca oral wishes.

Who?

Danner denied.

Maybe Marlene's assistant Carla Wynn typed after Marlene instruction “memorialize Rebecca’s wishes.”

Carla testified:

“Marlene told me Rebecca had dictated.”

“I created.”

“Marlene provided signature image and said Rebecca had approved before death.”

Carla believed? She should have questioned.

She cooperated.

Marlene knowingly used dead signature.

Potential forgery/fraud.

This escalated criminal.

Daniel felt physically ill.

His wife’s name.

Like using her body after death.

He confronted only through deposition video later.

“Why?”

Marlene:

“Because it was what she wanted.”

“No.”

“You weren’t there for every conversation.”

“Neither were you inside her mind.”

“She told me—”

“Then write memo saying you recall. You don’t paste her signature.”

Silence.

Exactly.

Even if oral wish, fake signature wrong.

Marlene’s entitlement overcame.

She blamed Rebecca:

“She created hostility.”

“She excluded me.”

“She forced me to protect family without formal role.”

No.

Exclusion was boundary.

Daniel:

“Rebecca didn’t make you forge.”

Marlene cried:

“She was taking Lily away from me.”

There.

Rebecca wanted Claire as backup, independent trustee.

Marlene experienced as theft of granddaughter.

After Rebecca died, she reversed.

So deeper motive:

resentment toward dead daughter-in-law.

Daniel had not seen.

Rebecca and Marlene smiled at holidays, fought privately.

He avoided.

His coldness/avoidance enabled.

He owned:

“I should have listened.”

But not blame.

Then Lily asked why Grandma angry at Mommy.

Daniel:

“They disagreed.”

“Did Grandma lie with Mom name?”

He had to say:

“Yes.”

Lily cried.

“Can dead people be hurt?”

Daniel:

“Not like us.”

“But their wishes can be disrespected.”

“Did Grandma disrespect?”

“Yes.”

Lily:

“That’s mean.”

Yes.

Daniel restored Rebecca wishes legally:

court declared memorandum invalid.

Trust followed original.

Claire confirmed.

Marlene’s defense collapsed.

Blaming Rebecca might have worked if dead woman no records.

May you like

But she had attorney, emails, authentic documents.

Again direct sources beat narrative.
