“DAD… CHECK HER BAG” / Chapter 7 / 25

Chapter 7 - LILY SAYS GRANDMA PUT SOMETHING IN THE TEALily remembered the tea because of sound.

The spoon crushed pill with small click against saucer.

She drew during second interview.

Kitchen.

Grandma.

Blue mug.

White powder.

Dad at table.

Hannah asked:

“How many times?”

Lily:

“Lots.”

Kids imprecise.

Investigators matched camera:

seven clear incidents in ninety-day archive plus older clips.

Not “lots” necessarily, but repeated.

On two, Daniel explicitly shook head when Marlene showed bottle? Need audio absent. One had audio from smart display? Maybe no.

But Daniel testified:

“I never consented to crushed medication in tea.”

Prescription intended swallow whole maybe. If so crushing could alter. Avoid specific.

Marlene’s defense:

Daniel knew.

He disliked taking pills.

She dissolved for him at request.

No written.

Daniel:

“Never.”

Who believe?

Pattern + secrecy to Lily + journal.

One camera clip captured Lily:

“What’s that?”

Marlene:

“Vitamin for Daddy.”

Audio available because kitchen security camera recorded sound? We can establish audio recording legal in household? Fine fictional.

Marlene lied to child.

That undermined consent.

If Daniel knowingly, why call vitamin?

Another:

Daniel sipped, said:

“Why does this taste weird?”

Marlene:

“New tea.”

Daniel watched video.

He had forgotten.

Not because memory defect necessarily; ordinary.

But it showed no knowledge.

Prosecutors strong.

Marlene charged with unlawful administration? Depending jurisdiction. Keep “criminal investigation included unauthorized medication.”

No need exact.

Then Lily added:

Grandma sometimes gave her “sleepy syrup”?

Danger! Outline says grandma hurting us. But this could escalate. We should not invent child dosing maybe. Keep no, just Daniel.

“Us” because Grandma threatened Lily and manipulated Dad.

Then tea tied to financial meetings.

Mira? We need forensic accountant later. Let's introduce Caroline Wexler as independent forensic accountant.

She compared dates:

Three of seven filmed dosing incidents occurred nights Daniel signed financial or legal documents within hours.

One:

POA amendment.

Timestamp:

Tea 7:12.

Doc e-sign 8:04.

Daniel had no memory.

Signature authenticated?

E-sign originated his iPad, facial maybe? If sedated but functioning. Legal capacity questionable.

Marlene claimed consent.

Another:

Expense authorization to Lily trust reimbursement.

Another:

transfer of voting proxy.

Pattern.

Nathan:

“This is significant.”

Daniel felt cold.

“You’re saying she drugged me to sign?”

“We can say medication was administered without apparent disclosure near signing events. Intent must be proven.”

Careful.

Emails from Marlene to Danner:

Daniel calmer tonight. Send docs now.

That's damning.

Another:

He is taking his medication. We can get through signatures.

Did she tell lawyer unauthorized? No.

Danner assumed prescribed.

He might not be complicit.

Danner later said:

“Marlene told me Daniel requested evening signing after meds.”

False.

He cooperated.

Power of attorney perhaps voidable due undue influence/lack informed consent.

Court suspended.

Daniel regained full.

He appointed independent attorney-in-fact backup: Nathan? Better professional fiduciary.

He told Lily:

“Grandma won’t be handling my medicine again.”

Lily smiled.

“Can I make tea?”

“With no mystery ingredients.”

She laughed.

That night they made tea together.

Daniel opened box, poured.

Lily watched.

“Nothing?”

“Nothing.”

He gave her cocoa instead.

It became healing ritual.

Transparency.

Daniel’s therapist helped him accept:

Being medicated without knowledge can cause hypervigilance.

He started checking cups obsessively.

He didn't want Lily see fear.

But she did.

“Dad, are you scared of tea?”

He laughed sadly.

“Little.”

“Me too.”

They switched to bottled water for while.

No shame.

Months later tea normal.

The camera above kitchen did more than prove medication.

It showed Marlene’s confidence.

She moved naturally.

Not panicked.

Routine.

This had been system.

And Lily’s small observation cracked.

Again child noticing adults ignore.

Daniel never called her hero publicly.

He said:

May you like

“You told truth.”

Enough.
