“DAD… CHECK HER BAG” / Chapter 19 / 25

Chapter 19 - THE DOCUMENT CREATED AFTER REBECCA DIEDThe forged memorandum was only one.

Another trust consent dated before Rebecca death but PDF creation after.

It approved replacement of Easton Fiduciary with Prescott Family Trust Services, an entity Marlene later tried establish.

Never effectuated because Easton required direct Rebecca confirmation which never came.

Marlene kept as support.

Forensic examiner Dr. Simon Avery testified:

Signature image identical pixels to Rebecca 2019 school form.

Impossible two wet signatures exactly identical.

Copied.

Metadata:

document generated using Marlene office account 94 days after death.

Daniel sat courtroom preliminary hearing.

He did not look at mother.

Prosecutor asked:

“Was this ever acted upon?”

“No.”

“Did it move funds?”

“No.”

Important.

Forgery attempt, not successful transfer.

But shows plan.

Marlene's attorney:

documents were drafts never used.

Yet one appeared in lockbox labeled signed.

One emailed to Danner? Danner rejected:

“I cannot use without original.”

Marlene:

“I’ll find.”

She didn't.

So professional boundary stopped.

Then Rebecca signature on family support memo had been shown to Daniel once? He didn't remember. It may have influenced his POA signing because Marlene said “Rebecca wanted me to help.”

Yes.

Thus fraud induced.

Marlene used dead wife to gain trust.

Daniel recalled signing:

“Rebecca would want this.”

Marlene:

“She did.”

Fake memo perhaps basis.

That hurt.

Criminal charges eventually:

forgery/use of false instrument,

financial exploitation,

unauthorized administration of medication,

witness intimidation/child assault? Keep general.

No need exact jurisdiction.

Marlene surrendered through attorney, no dramatic handcuffs.

Daniel saw news photo.

His mother, 66 maybe? Script gave no age. Let's pick 67. Elegant.

He cried.

Not satisfaction.

Lily asked:

“Is Grandma in jail?”

At that stage released conditions.

“No.”

“She has court.”

“Will she come house?”

“No.”

“Good.”

That mattered more.

The forged document created after Rebecca died became smoking gun not because amount, but disproved Marlene’s mantra:

“I only did what Rebecca wanted.”

No.

If Rebecca wanted, no need fabricate.

Marlene perhaps convinced herself.

Self-deception.

Court later ordered all Rebecca-related documents audited.

No more.

Daniel also requested corporate records with mother approvals.

Some questionable but not criminal.

He resisted witch hunt.

“Only investigate material.”

Caroline agreed.

No rewrite entire life.

Marlene had done legitimate work for company for decades.

She raised Daniel.

She managed foundation.

Not everything fraud.

This nuance important.

Daniel told board:

“We will not erase contributions because misconduct.”

“We will also not use contributions to excuse.”

Balanced.

Prescott headquarters sale proceeded after vote.

A gallery inside new campus honored Richard and Marlene for founding-era work? Would Daniel keep her name after conviction? Maybe later debate. He chose factual historical plaque, not honorific hero. Fine.

Rebecca’s signature, once misused, was protected.

Daniel became obsessive about authentic approvals.

He created digital vault.

Lily joked:

“Dad loves passwords now.”

He laughed.

Maybe.

The document made Daniel finally stop asking:

“Could Mom have meant well?”

Meaning well doesn't explain fake dead signature.

May you like

It explained rationalization perhaps.

But line crossed.
