Chapter 19 - THE HOUSE HELENA NEVER GOT TO LEAVE

Alderwyn Estate had belonged through family trust to Helena and Grant jointly? After trust resolution, perhaps Julian now owns via trust. Grant had moved.
Julian considered selling.
Nora said:
“Don’t decide because ghosts.”
He invited experts, family.
Eventually converted part into foundation offices? Maybe.
But first, he and Nora walked rooms.
Helena’s bedroom preserved by Grant after death, oddly.
Julian had not entered in years.
Nora saw vanity.
Perfume bottles.
Books.
A riding crop? maybe no.
She asked:
“Why preserve?”
Julian:
“My father.”
Maybe guilt.
In wardrobe, seamstress found hidden pocket with small notebook during inventory.
Helena’s private final weeks.
Not murder evidence new.
Emotional.
Entries:
anger at Grant.
desire for Daniel.
guilt about affair.
fear of pregnancy.
love for Julian.
resentment of motherhood expectations.
dream of opening restoration studio in Maine.
Human.
One entry:
I am terrified Julian will think I left because of him. Perhaps I have protected him so thoroughly from marriage that he will not understand why I need to go. That may be my greatest failure.
Julian cried.
Nora sat beside.
He said:
“She knew.”
“Yes.”
“She did same as everyone.”
“Yes.”
“Protected by withholding.”
“Yes.”
No saint.
He looked at Nora.
“Do you want kids?”
Unexpected.
She breathed.
“Maybe.”
“Sorry.”
“No.”
“You?”
“Maybe.”
“I’m scared.”
“Because family.”
“Yes.”
Nora:
“Fear isn’t hereditary destiny.”
He smiled.
Then:
“Do you want marriage?”
“Eventually maybe.”
“Not because locket.”
“Good.”
He laughed.
They did not turn discovery into proposal.
Maturity.
They made love that night? At separate place, perhaps not in mother's room. Tasteful.
Later they decide Alderwyn not primary home.
Julian converts estate into conference/heritage center? Too grand.
Maybe sells to conservation trust with family archives retained, while ballroom leased for events. But user likes luxury. Yet closure could be selling.
He chose to keep main estate under foundation with public historic tours and corporate retreat? Hmm.
Better: He separates personal from corporate. He moves out. Alderwyn retained by Hawthorne Foundation as events and historic property. Staff become professional, HR independent. Nora supports but no role.
The ballroom where Nora was hit eventually adds staff conduct policy? Not plaque.

No performative memorial.
