Chapter 21 - CAMILLE RETURNS THE CROP

Camille kept riding crop for months? Police had seized as evidence of assault. After case (misdemeanor assault? Nora didn't pursue? The incident could have criminal complaint. Camille accepted diversion/community service? Let's include).
Camille had pleaded no contest to misdemeanor assault for striking Nora once, received probation, anger-management, community service, restitution for medical expenses. No jail. She publicly apologized.
After evidence released, crop returned to her.
She did not want.
She contacted Nora.
“I want you to decide.”
Nora:
“Why me?”
“It was used on you.”
“Destroy it.”
Camille did.
Not symbolic grand. Had leather cut and disposed.
Then Camille invited Nora to equine therapy center.
Nora declined.
Maybe later.
Camille and Elias developed co-parent friendship.
Not romance initially.
At Isla’s first birthday, they kissed unexpectedly.
Camille stopped.
“This is how we ruin things.”
Elias:
“Maybe.”
“Or we talk.”
They began therapy before dating.
Adult.
No fairy tale.
Camille had changed from entitlement to accountability slowly.
She still liked luxury.
Still sharp.
Still sometimes defensive.
Nora never became close friend.
But they could stand in same room.
At one point Camille asked:
“Do you ever think if I hadn’t hit you, none of this would come out?”
Nora:
“Yes.”
“That makes me weirdly important.”
“Don’t.”
Camille laughed.
“Fair.”
The cruelty accidentally exposed truth.
But no credit.
May you like
Good.
