Chapter 13 - THOMAS’S SIGNATUREThe forged Redwood authorization led to three more documents.

A proposed trust distribution.
A behavioral assessment consent.
A residential transportation authorization.
All carried Thomas’s signature.
Forensic document review suggested they were digital reproductions, not handwritten copies.
Rachel had access to a scanned signature used for household approvals.
Thomas had allowed it.
Grant Hollowell had warned him a year earlier:
“We should move to verified approvals.”
Thomas said:
“Rachel handles family matters. Keep it simple.”
He remembered the exact conversation.
Convenience.
Again.
He had built a system where his signature could travel without him.
Rachel exploited it.
Thomas did not blame himself for forgery.
He did blame himself for creating lazy controls around Emily’s trust.
He resigned as sole acting trustee voluntarily.
Beacon Fiduciary became primary administrative trustee with Thomas retaining limited family advisory rights.
Eleanor asked:
“You don’t have to remove yourself entirely.”
“I know.”
“Then why?”
“Because Emily’s money should not depend on whether I’m paying attention during a business trip.”
It was one of the first structural consequences Thomas imposed on himself.
Not punishment.
Design.

A future Rachel should not be able to impersonate him easily.
A future Thomas should not be able to approve casually.
