Chapter 11 - WHAT CAMBRIA REALLY WANTSCambria grew up watching rich women order her mother around.

Her mother managed housekeeping operations at luxury hotels.

Cambria waited in staff rooms.

Service corridors.

Back offices.

She watched women leave thousand-dollar tips after screaming over pillowcases.

By sixteen she had formed a theory:

There were people who served rooms.

And people rooms served.

She would become the second kind.

Marcus uncovered no criminal history.

No secret prostitution.

No dramatic fraud.

Just ambition.

Student debt.

Two relationships with wealthy older men.

A pattern of entering elite nonprofit networks.

Cambria did not want Dorian only because he was handsome.

He represented arrival.

Old name.

Asterleigh.

Westbrook.

A future where nobody looked past her.

That made her dangerous in a more believable way.

She could justify almost anything as climbing out of humiliation.

Then Marcus discovered fertility appointments.

Arielle looked up.

“What?”

“Cambria attended a private clinic twice.”

“Pregnant?”

“No evidence.”

Arielle thought.

“If she became pregnant…”

“She’d have leverage.”

Arielle closed the folder.

“Especially with Evelyn.”
