Chapter 21 - THE PUBLIC ROOMArielle could have released everything online.

She chose not to.

Too easy.

Too chaotic.

Too much space for counter-narratives.

Instead, she waited for the Southern Heritage Foundation Gala.

Asterleigh House again.

Same chandeliers.

Same marble.

Many of the same guests.

Cambria attended because she still believed social survival required showing up.

Evelyn attended because absence looked like guilt.

Dorian attended because Arielle asked him to.

He did not know why.

At 9:15 p.m., Arielle stepped onto the small stage.

The room quieted.

She wore midnight blue again.

Not the same dress.

Close enough that people remembered.

“Several months ago,” she began, “many of you witnessed an incident in this house.”

No one moved.

“Some of you believed I struck Cambria Sloane.”

Cambria went pale.

Arielle continued.

“I did not.”

A screen lit behind her.

Video.

Cambria approaching.

Looking toward Dorian.

Stepping backward.

Lowering herself.

Falling.

Arielle never touching her.

The room erupted in whispers.

Cambria stood.

“This is edited!”

Arielle looked at her.

“Then perhaps you'll prefer the system logs.”

Next slide.

Deleted footage.

Admin access.

Kendra’s testimony.

Cambria began moving toward the exit.

Tessa stood from a nearby table.

“I saw you.”

Cambria stopped.

Tessa’s voice shook.

“But I stayed quiet.”

Everyone looked.

Tessa continued:

“Arielle never touched you.”

May you like

Cambria’s face collapsed.

This time the room saw the difference between staged tears and real panic.
